building my SR124 Enclosure

Guys I recently download a software to design my sealed enclosure, this is for one Polk Audio SR 124 DVC Subwoofer ( I use Bass Box Pro)



all the walls are going to be made of 3/4 MDF

height: 370 mm
Long: 780mm
deep: 227mm

for a total of (46.51 Liters) - (the little reinforcement in the middle)

the maximum recomended eclosure is 46.439 Liters (pretty close)


So is it my design ok?

How much space do i need between the bottom of the sub and the back wall of the enclosure?

the mounting depth is 7.6" and I have just have 0.588 inches between the bottom of the sub and the back enclosure wall.

is it a 1/2 inche, enough?

if u are going for sound quality i would go small as u can... i mean ur just gonna be louder if u go big. its my understanding, and i could be wrong, and please correct me if i am... but if u go with a smaller encloser your music is more true, meaning its going to sound how it should and not be artifical. It's also my understanding that a sub will actualy hit HARDER in a smaller box.

Sq people will tell you to either use a larger sealed enclosure or a low-tuned ported enclosure.

I'd go for a sealed box... 1.2 to 1.5 cubic feet depending on what you're looking for. 1.4-1.5 will give you a near perfect Q measure. A smaller box will sound more "tight" and quick and have more "punch", but will lack deep bass extension. a box too big will sound "boomy". The key is to find a good balance. Keep in mind that you can fry your sub easier if you try to push it hard in a box thats too small. If you have good mid-bass with your components, I'd go for a 1.4 ft3 box.

But as for your concern, I think you're fine in regards to clearance.

ok yes I think I have good midbass, i have a DB6500 component system, but im going to change them for a set of SR6500 in 2 or 3 months.

and im planing to use the sub from 20 to 100 hz, and the DB6500 or SR6500 from 100 hz and up..

so i think the 1.4 cubic feet should be ok, am I right?

also my trunk its very big, does this can change my subwoofer sound?

Guys I talk to Polk Audio tech support, and the told me that the SR124 DVC handles 1200 RMS Watts at 2 Ohms, is this correct?

And what about the LPF crossover, can i put it on 20 - 100 hz?
can i go more than 100hz? like 120 hz ?

Those subs can take a beating, 1200 rms sounds a little too much, but if you're careful with your gain then you probably won't have problems.

The freq. response for those subs is 20-200hz, so yes, you can go higher than 100, but if you go too high, the bass becomes localized and you can tell where the woofer is. You might even here some voices sound like they're coming from the woofer. Generally, most people will have the lpf at 80hz, but play around with it and see what you think sounds best.

thanks, i would try the 80hz and the 100hz and i think no more than that.

and the enclosure i go for the 1.4 feet3, as you told me, now we are redesigning the enclosure to give us 1.4.

i would probably have some pictures in 2 weeks.

PD: the SR124DVC looks beutiful, and is one of the best looking subs i have ever seen.

Just got my 2 SR124-DVC installed today with a Kicker SX1250.1 amp wired in at 1ohm putting 705watts to each sub. The box is 14x28x14 sealed and chambered which I think comes out to (after displacement) 1.02cft for each sub. They sound great, hit fast and accurate. Right now I'm just breaking them in, so in a week or so I'll probably turn the gain up a little because even with my Alpine HU's subwoofer level turned up to +15 it still takes a bit to get them loud. After break in and I get everything straightened out, I might go a little bigger with a 14.75x29x14.75 box which I believe came out to be (after displacement) 1.21cft for each sub. (This is all with 3/4 MDF.)

you're right, but the manual says 0.88 (net) + 0.14 (displacement) = 1.02 (gross). This is the absolute minimum, though. Its what I have now, although I think it sounds very tight and quick, I'm going to go bigger when building my next box b/c my components have good enough mid-bass, so the subs can sacrifice a bit of punch for bass extension
