    Default Rti8 Harshness

    Hey everyone,

    Merry Christmas!

I got my brother a pair of RTi8s to start his HT setup. I had always heard that they were a pretty bright speaker. This is the first time i was able to actually hear them, i thought they were very bright and almost a little harsh.

I was wondering if they mellow out a little as they break in. Right out of the box they were pretty intense. Any experiences?

what receiver is your brother using to power the RTi8's? If it's an Onkyo, yeah it's gonna be brite.

The RTis are a bright speaker...if you find them harsh try turning the treble down on your tone controls. You should be able to tweak the sound to your liking. Also danger boy is right...these speakers sound better w/warm receivers such as HK.

i can attest to this personally. i went from an h/k 7300 to an onkyo 805 because i wanted lossless audio. h/k sounded just a tad bright with my complete rti setup. only had to turn the treble down like -2db. with the new onkyo, i'm bottomed out at -10 db and wish i could go to -20db on the treble. it's bearable now. but damn, i'm finding out it's brighter than the mid-day sun! gotta decide what i'm gonna do from here...

yeah, get yourself accustomed better to them. or your bro, anyway. hk will do you well. don't know how many watts the avr125 puts out, but a little more power is ALWAYS better. but i'm sure in the end you'll be happy with what you have. tack on a decent sub, and i guarantee you'll/he'll be happy.

Actually, I'm thinking about getting the Rti8 or the new Rti A7. The Rti A7 is like double the money for Rti8. I had audited the A7 vs. A5, and I love the A7 much better. How does Rti A5 compares to Rti8? I'm assuming they sound similar. Does the A7 worth the extra $300? Thanks in advacne.
