    Default I've Lost the Urge...

After about 6 years of constantly buying audio gear, I have lost all desire to upgrade. Is this temporary? Is there an antidote? What should I do? Someone please help.

It could be burnout. It could be that you really like what you are hearing and are aurally satisfied.

Every addiction has a "saturation" and "plateau" state where further stimulation produces no higher satisfaction. Maybe you're there.

Shut the hell up. :D Lost the urge. I thought this was going to be some post about giving up on life or something. I don't buy your claim of "audio impotency" one bit. Just wait . . . you'll be bobbing your head to some tunes weeks from now and begin to ask yourself, "does that sound right? What if I do this or change that?" Then you'll see something new that you don't have but looks interesting. It's all cyclical. You are simply having a dry spell.

Yes, and no. I picked up the AR and Usher gear and that's really had me very satisifed since my relaxing hiatus from hi-fi.

Stop. Take a break. Refocus. Research and get your ear on other gear. Take your time. Focus on what really needs to be addressed in your rig. Then, when the urge comes again, make an educated purchase.

Until then, enjoy the tunes. After all, that's what it's all about. ;)

Once an audiophile, always an audiophile. You'll be back - whether its in a few days, few months, or years. Meanwhile, just be thankful that you've finally reached some sort of echelon to be content with.

Yup. I took an 18 year break and I'm into it again. It never ends. All that got me started again was trying a new amp.....then I found the forums and it's been hell on wheels ever since. Couldn't be happier though. ;)

It's all about the journey. Even the highest regarded person climbing Mt. Everest has to take a break occasionally. ;)

When I get out of the mood I just do something else for several months. Before you know it I'm back into it a different way. In the end its all about the music. Maybe you are overexposed or just tired of what you are listening to.
