Default Official Club Polk Thrift/CL Recovery Thread

Everyone likes great deals.....so what have you recovered from near death at a thrift store or on craigslist? Obviously, if you intend on flipping stuff you might not want to post the price paid, or better yet don't post it at all.....but if it's for your personal collection lets hear it!

Just came from a local thrift today and brought home on vinyl(all in really good condition):

    Aerosmith Get Your Wings
    Aerosmith Rocks
    Aerosmith Dream On
    Ashanti Rock Wit U
    Bad Company Fame and Fortune
    Billy Joel Glass Houses
Blood, Sweat, & Tears Self Titled
Blood, Sweat, & Tears Self Titled
    Bob Seger Against the Wind
    Chicago IX
    Chicago IX
Earth, Wind & Fire All 'N All
    Elton John Don't Shoot Me
    Fleetwood Mac Rumours
    Fleetwood Mac Rumours
    Jimmy Buffet Changes in Attitudes
Julio Inglesias Mi Vida En Canciones
Peter Frampton Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
Rush All the World's A Stage
    Rush Hemisphere's
    Rush 2112
    Rush Exit Stage Left
    Santana Abraxas
Sean Paul Never Gonna Be the Same
    Stevie Wonder In Square Circle
    Van Morrison Moondance

Over the last couple weeks from the same thrift on CD:

Meatloaf - Bat Out of Hell 2
The Cranberries - Everybody Else is Doing It, So Why Can't We?
    Helmet - Aftertaste
    Bob Seger - Night Moves
REM - New Adventures in Hi-Fi
The Roots - Don't Say Nuthin
Elton John - Something About The Way You Look Tonight
    Bob Seger - It's a Mystery
    Bush - Razorblade Suitcase
    REM - Out of Time
    Chicago - Greatest Hits
Steve Miller Band - Greatest Hits
    Jimi Hendrix - Woodstock
    ZZ Top - Eliminator
    U2 - Rattle and Hum
    The Rembrants - LP

I'm stocking up on doubles, triples, quadruples to use to trade people for other vinyl I might be interested in that I can't come across. Did it two weeks ago with some CD's on Audiokarma and worked out well.

From Craigslist I picked up a McIntosh MC-7270 MINT with wooden case for $1200.

Also Polk Monitor 7's, 7C's, and 10 from free to $50 a pair. Recently I missed out on a couple of deals due to a lack of space here.

My local thrift used to sell LP's for $.10 each, now they're $.25 each, still not bad.

Missed a nice looking "big silver" receiver from the swap pile at the dump today by moments. I think it was a Hitachi. Not like I need any more, so I cannot really complain.

It sure is cool to pick up so much music for nothing. Only audiophiles would pay so much for something that plays something so cheap... :) (in reference to records) I just did a sweep of purchases on ebay for old dixieland recordings. There were a lot of good quality ones.

In thrift stores? Over the last 15 years or so? Your heart would fall out if I posted that list.

I don't do much ebay, A-Gon, CL or any stuff like that. Best ebay was a cuter than **** NAD power amp for $7. The shipping was $14.

Add a couple to the mix. I called/emailed to check what the models where since they aren't listed.

R15's and a Pioneer SX-40, both supposed to be in good condition

Monitor 7's, still available as of 2 minutes ago, and in good condition.

No affiliation, just thought I would pass the info along.
I know just enough to be dangerous, but don't tell my wife, she thinks I'm a genius. :D

    Pioneer VSX-816
    Monitor 40's - fronts, bi-amped
    Monitor 30's - surrounds
    CS1 - center
    PSW10 - I'll let you guess
Blue Jeans Cable - speaker cable
Daewoo 27 incher - one step up from a console
    Sony Progressive scan DVD
    XBOX

    SOPA since 2008
    Here's my stuff.

Hey edbert, as far as I know those Monitor 7's are mine, emailed the guy selling these and he is going to deliver them to me next time he is in town. fifty bucks seems like a good enough deal. Now I have to decide if I want to use them as rear surrounds or for a bedroom system. A few months ago I picked up some RTA-12c's for $150, before long I'll look to replace the Infinity center channel and the AR Sub and be Surrounded in POLKS!

Cool! Glad to know someone here picked them up! I didn't have anywhere to use them so I figured someone here could.

I saw those speakers the day they were listed but I just don't need another pair of bookshelf speakers since they'd never get used and Denton is only 10 minutes from me.

What I've found during this month (January 2008)....

McIntosh 1900 receiver $10 (with original wood case)
    Klipsch Heresy H-BR's $10
    Carver TL-3300 CD, Denon DCM-560 and a ADC SS-450X EQ for $100

This past weekend at a garage sale, I picked up about 40 albums in VG+ condition of which 5 were MFSL and Nautilus SuperDisc's for $20. Plus, there were some very cool LP's in there including a Crown Test LP from the late 70's and some Maxell sampler LP's. I'm almost getting tired of coming across speakers and I'm getting to where I don't pick them up anymore no matter how cheap they are. I'm running out of space!

I got an HK integrated amp for free of CL. The guy said it was broken, but the line through worked even though the integrated didn't. It was a fun discovery.

I made my monthly trip to the thrift store today and was happy with what I found all for $6.50. Four of the 8 still had shrink wrap on the cover which is not good for the album but it is what it is.

Freddie Jackson - Rock me tonight
    Whitney Houston - self titled
George Howard - A nice place to be
George Howard - Dancing in the sun
    We are the world :)
    Jeffrey Osborne - Emotional
    Kirk Whalum - Floppy disk
    Billy Ocean - Suddenly
