    Default How to extend boards?

    Hi,

I've been trying to fix this projector outlined in this thread: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61305, but I have one question for you DIY'ers on electronics testing and repair.

I was wondering if anyone here knew how to extend PCBs in electronics so that they can be removed (and tested) with the projector running, so that they can be easily accessed. Because once the cover is open there are a few things that must be disconnected so the projector can't run while open.

In this case, I would need to extend boards from their original locations to make them more accessible for testing; what's the best way to do that?

What we used to do is grab the female connectors from the parts bin [or order it x2] and install the desired length to both. There is a specific tool for this task and I'll be damned if I can remember the name of it.

You might get lucky and be able to order one pre-built straight from an electronics supplier, keeping in mind the the color codes will not be the same.
In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence.

I tried and couldn't find anything that matches the Sony boards in that projector. So it makes it VERY difficult to troubleshoot with the projector running, as the boards are impossible to access without sliding them out or removing parts in the way.
