Default Which player: PS3 or Sony BDP-S300

Both are priced at $399 and I have a 20% off Best Buy coupon I can use this weekend.

My current Samsung BD-P1000 has too much trouble playing disc so it's time to get rid of it.

The only drawback to the PS3 is that the fan comes on sometimes and its kind of loud...I got the ps3 to play blu ray but also because I play some games (madden)... if you play your HT loud the fan noise should be a non issue but for a quiet serious type movie it could potentially be annoying..if money is an issue and you play video games get the ps3. more than capable and the graphics on the games are ridiculous..so much fun. get Uncharted..a fun puzzle raiders of the lost ark type of game..

I have a PS3 and a BD30. The BD30 is a MUCH better player than the Sony S300, but it is going back. The PS3 is just that good. In my opinion, the pluses way outweigh the minuses.

There is a good PS3 thread in the gaming forum.

Dude buy the Ps3. I own one myself and you know how picky I am. Also get the 80 gig if you want to use it as a music server(allday dude) and a SACD playback( only from HDMI out). Also you get a card reader in the front which is killer for pictures. Spend the extra 100 bucks and get the Ps3.

The panasonic is nice but the Ps3 is better all around in my opnion.

Yes and I left a pretty detailed review in there. You should go read it.

How are you using the PS3 it as a music server? Is it streaming music from your PC or are you actually putting music onto the PS3 hard drive

You can do both. I just put mine on the hard drive.

I store it on the Ps3 by ripping cd's into it. I use AAC 320 and Atrak 352. It's sounds exaclty like the cd. I don't hear any loss in sound quality. It's nice man. I've been wanting a music server(the McInstosh one s a bit expensive) and when I found out the Ps3 can do it, I had to try. Changing discs sucks and when you have a party or a Holiday get together , it's very nice to make playlists and let it play.

I used to use my Ipod for this but the sound quality wasn't as good as cd's. It didn't matter that much as most of it was background but when I want to listen for myself, I want it to be the best it can be.

The asking price of the Ps3 at 499.99 which is what mine cost is a steal. I payed full retail with no complaints. I would have spent more. I believe the machine is more worth 1000.00 due to everything it can do and do very well.

Personally, I'd say go with the PS3. My only beef with it is that the remote is bluetooth. My Harmony 890 won't work with it :(

However as a player, it's great. Also, since mine is on an open stand, the extra fan never kicks on so it is basically whisper quiet.

Dude, it will! (I get so sick of hearing this over and over! ;)) Buy the Nyko remote for $10, go to the Harmony website, and Nyko PS3. You will have all the funtionality, except for turning it on. It will evendo that with a $50 dongle being sold on AVS forum. I had to tweak mine to my liking, but my 880 runs it every day!

Walked out of BB this morning with the following...

    - 40gig PS3
    - Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
    - Hellboy Blu-ray
    - 32" LCD 720p Insignia TV
    - Low profile wall mount

The TV will go in the living room (we currently don't have a TV) along with my Samsung BD-P1000 and the PS3 will go into the HT. Also, this coming Wednesday Verison is coming out to install their Fios TV / Internet / Phone deal. With that deal I also get a $200 BB gift card.

Haven't quite got to it yet Dan, I just got the TV hung and wired up today, pulled the BD-P1000 from the theater and put it into the living room with the new TV. Next project is to get the PS3 into the theater and running, hopefully within the next couple of days.

Can't wait to play Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and watch Sunshine on Blu. My Sammy would not play Sunshine, what a craptacular machine it turned out to be.

It's depressing all the bull**** around HD DVD and Blue ray. If it's a Blue machine, it should play every disc no matter what. I hate all that. I hate all the HDMI changes. I hate the fact that not only are they changing the spec but it's hardware as well.

Before HD and BLUE came out , they already knew 1080p and all the avalible audio. Why keep effin with it?? It kills me.

Sorry but all that really pisses me off. All the damn HDMI preamp and none of them decode anything. I wanna blast everybody who makes gear.

So cool man I saw your pics, tv looks good. Can't wait to read your impressions of the Ps3. I really love mine. Do you have a HDMI preamp/receiver now?

No HDMI pre-pro, that is yet to come. Maybe late this year. I'm in no hurry to run out and buy anything HDMI audio wise, I'll wait until the dust settles. For now I stick with Toslink / Coax. At least my HD-DVD / Blu-ray players both have analog outs.
