Default Shopping for a new toy, Opinions

Please vote and leave your comments.

Looking to replace my Denon 3802 that I traded off a few months ago. Just asking for some opinions here guys. I have 3 units I am looking at.

    1. B&K Reference 30 (used market 1300.00-1500.00) all features I want/need minus Dobly Pro II (no big deal), built in tuner as a bonus. Prepro only, no amps.

    2. Rotel RSP-1066 (1200.00 delivered online) Looks like a million buck, all features wanted, no tuner (might be omitted for quality reasons) Prepro only, no amps.

    3. Denon AVR-3803 (900.00 ish online) Newer version of what I had (I was happy with the 3802) all the bells and 7 channels of power (not the best amps, but hey they will at least drive the surrounds for FREE)

Give me your thoughts, and Thanks in advance.

There is no firm budget, but the 1500.00 is pushing it, really pushing it.

I have 3 - NAD 2ch amps now, but will most likely sell them off to get some cash to buy a mutichannel amp.

If it were me, I'd go with either the B&K or the Rotel. If you have the chance, go with full on seperates.

There is a nice used B&K 5ch amp on the home theater forum for sale. I think the guy is asking $500 or so? Match that with the B&K pre and you are set.

Default I voted for the Denon, but if it were my money....

If I was looking for a pre/proc. in that price range it should have all the current features and bell & whistles. If you can't get that within your price range, I'd get a separate dedicated pre and a processor that fits your needs. I think 7.1 is only the beginning and 10.2 or some such is right around the corner and this will give you the opportunity to upgrade without changing your preamp. You can always put your old processor up for sale to guys like me that are a few years late and dollars short.

I'd keep the 3 NADs or give them to anybody that goes by the name Gidrah. Better channel separation, upgrade possibiliies, and bi-amp abilities. Not to mention NAD makes some splendid amps.

This is only food for thought as I'm not in the market for this level of spending on HT and haven't done the research. I only have urges.

    The Denon -
    High Clean Power / 7.1 / features
    No brainer!!!
    IMHO
PS3 and HD Front Projection, life is good. Too bad Blu-Ray and the PS3 are already obsolete.....
