Recommended distance is between the woofer and tweeter in a MM465 install?

Hi,

Before I begin, sorry for my crappy english, i'm a dutchman.

I'm a proud owner of a Polk MOMO MM465 :)
Could you tell me what the recommended distance is between the woofer and tweeter in a MM465 install?
Iv'e read earlier that 18 inch is the max.
I'm having an Opel Astra 2001 from my lease company, so i can't just cut some holes in my doorpanels.
The default speaker holes are in the lower door for the woofer and in the mirror corner for the tweeter.
If a calculate simple then the distance is about 30 inch.
Does that mean that my compo just isn't going to sound as perfect as it should sound when I install my compo the default holes?
Are you having any tips, hints to install it the right way before I begin?
Iv'e heard that the placing of the components is a crucial thing.

Eric,
To get the system to sound "balanced" due to the location of the drivers and tweeters you may have to set the attenuation switch to the -6 dB position and invert the phase of the tweeters.

also --- if you have a lease car and cant screw / drill into panels to palce your tweeters -- you can use velcro -- get some high strength velcro and stick one part to where you want to surface mount the tweeter, the other to the back of the tweet.

whether or not this will be asthetically pleasing in your car is going to be dependant on the vechile (i've never seen an opel so i dont know) but ive seen it in a hyundai / honda / subaru / VW / Dodge truck / Chevy truck and it looked respectable in those.

Is it always that i have to do those 2 things at the together?
Invert the tweeter phase and switch to -6 dB?
What's the reason?
The distance between the woofer and tweeter is aprox. 50 cm (25inch) by the way.
What do you recommend me?

The reason to invert the phase is to get the tweeters acoustically in phase at the listening position. Set the attenuation level to the -6 dB position first. Then listen to the system. If it does not sound quite right and have a seamless transition from the driver to the tweeter, or if there is very little upper bass and lower midrange information and the tweeters seem to be playing louder than usual and producing too much high frequency information, then invert the phase.

I was going to run into this problem too when I installed my dB components.

What I did was basically ended up installing the tweeters directly over the woofers in the stock speaker locations. The speaker grilles in my truck have wide bars with equally wide openings and speaker grille cloth behind them. This allowed me to run a screw through them with a nut on the other end. I then took the surface mount cup and made the little hole in the center a tad wider. Then i put the screw through that hole, shoved the screw through the grille and threaded the nut onto the end with a wide washe to ensure it wouldn't pull through the grille opening. I had tried the velcro too and it didn't stick. The nice part about this was that I did not have to mess with phase or anything and could install them "straight up". I also had to cut no holes in the body panels. I did end up cracking a rear panel due to a bit of impatience but it can't be seen and hasn't rattled yet so no worries.
