    Question Should I get a Product Service Plan?

    Hello all, I just picked up a pair or RTi8s from Future Shop in Canada for $350. I also added their 9 year service plan for $80. Just wondering if it is a waste of money or a wise investment as I have 30 days to change my mind.

    Has anyone had any problems with their speakers that required servicing? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Bought my first set of Polks, RT7's, back in 1989 without a service contract. They are still in use today and never had a problem with them. Get the refund and use the $80 for some CD's or DVD's.

    $80 for an extended warranty for speakers that already have a 5 year warranty? Go get your money back. I have speakers that still have the original components that are 30 years old and sound as good now as they ever did (Large Advents). An extended warranty for most anything is a rip off...but especially for speakers.

    Not worth it. Even if you did blow a driver out of warranty, the average cost of a replacement is about $60.

    Polk makes a solid product, and still offers exceptional customer service. Besides, who knows if the company will still be floating in safe waters in the next few years..

    The only times Ive seen warranties begin to make a lick of sense is on expensive laptops or televisions.

    God I hate Future Shop. I hate the place so much. I hate it's employees. 5 times I have thought "give the place another chance." and been proven wrong to do so. Biggest pack of morons I have ever come across. I never EVER use that place anymore just because the people who work there, on commission, are the most helpless bunch of arrogant and ignorant people in the "customer service" industry.

    But I did buy my receiver there! :D "Would you like the extended warranty sir?" "Do you take me for rich man with a desire to blow all my money?" I replied. "After all, I am buying something that is on sale for more than half off." He nodded and rang it up.

    BeRad, I totally agree with you there. I'm not impressed with their customer service at all, but I gotta go where the deal is...unless anyone knows of other towers for under $400.

    BTW, I love this club. Everyone is very welcoming and helpful.

    Welcome to the forum. And don't buy extended warranites fo any appliance. I worked as service tech. for a co. and saw people spending EVERY YEAR for a warranty, what it would cost them to replace the equipt.

    OMG you took the words right out of my mouth! Although where else are you gonna line up too the day after boxing day at 4am to save thousands of dollars on electronics? I got a set of RTi8's and RTi4's and a velodyne dps12 for $900 tax in so I thought. Till they found out they weren't getting anymore of that model so they had to give me the 2008 model polks for the same price. Muhahaha suckers! (FS)
