Default will my neighbors hate me?

i just moved into a new house and am loving being on my own. being able to play what i want, when i want and at the volume i want. my question is if you guys think i am listening at a volume that my neighbors can hear. i did a short test yesterday and watched some band of brothers at a level i would want to watch it at. i averaged around 90db spiking no higher than around 105db. i am in a small house and i only have 1 neighbor within 1/2 a mile of me. however their house is only about 80 yards from my house. you think they could hear that at nighttime when theyre trying to sleep?

    I doubt it.

Why don't you leave it on and go outside yourself. I've done it to make sure I'm not disturbing neighbors at 2-3am.

Play something loud and walk on over towards their house, see how loud it seems.

If it's just barely audible, chances are they aren't going to hear it through their own walls.

Go outside at night with the system cranked and listen. Can you hear it? I'm using ALS Plats w/ Silver 9t's powering them and can barely hear it 20' from the house if the doors are closed. Doubt you will have any problems. Congrats on the new digs.

That sounds very load to me. But that would be about reference level. Few systems can really achieve that level of performance. I usually listen to movies at about -20dB to -15dB below reference. And music at 70dB-80dB. Most people I demo my system says it very load those levels.

I have had mine over 100 at times and my neighbors are 20 to 30 feet away. They tell me they have never heard anything. I am sure you are fine. That being said, if it were me, and I do this, introduce yourself and ask them if they have ever heard it. Nothing good relations with the neighbors. They can be your alarm system when you are not home. Good luck.

Yes, I'd also recommend just talking to them. One of the 1st things I did after moving in here was talk to my neighbor about my music (and more to the point movies!), and told him to not ever hesitate to come over if things get too loud.

At this point we have a mutual understanding. We both jam out as loud as we want, anytime we want, except for the wee hours of the morning.

And janmike has a point. I feel much safer leaving my girl home alone when I'm gone on business when I know a few neighbors will be peeking out the windows occasionally to make sure she's ok...

I think your going to be okay where your neighbors are concerned. Here's my advice:

    1) Be a good neighbor. Theres a lot of reasons to be a good neighbor, and not too many for not being a good neighbor. A good neighbor calls you when a U-Haul backs up to a bedroom window and three guys are loading a

Too loud music will catch up to you in the future, so be careful with your hearing. For the Neighbor approval factor, consider how loud you would accept listening to music you hate the most. For me, even the softest of "bad" music is annoying.

No kidding! Got one hell of a chuckle out of that one! :D :D :D
In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence.

The best way to enjoy digital music reproduction is to never listen to good analogue reproduction.

I think it's the bass you have worry about. I have a suggestion for checking to see how far it carries but it involves the neighbors wife which might be life threatening and not worth the risk.
