Default SDA 1C and Bridged Rotel Amps Question...

I'm pretty much a newbie here and have a question. I have a pair of Rotel 980bx amps driving Magnepan IIIa's and right next to them I have a pair of 1C's and I'd like to toggle between the 2 (really just unplug the wires from the maggies then into the polks) - would it be a matter of just connecting the negative terminal on the amps and I'd be good??

Also i would like to buy the RD0194-1's for the Polks - is that just a matter of calling polk customer service??

    Thanks

    Tim

If the Rotels are run as mono bloc's then no you can't use them unless you have the option AI-1 inter connect cable. If the Rotels are normally stereo amps that can be switched to run mono then the likely hood of connecting the negative speaker terminals is low. Contact Rotel for further info concerning strapping the Rotels together.

Simply call Polk Customer Service and ask for the RD0194-1 replacement tweeters and tell them you are a Club member. Last time I checked they were $104 a pr/shipped 2 day FedEx. You need 2 pr. so plan on $208 if the cost is the same as in the past.

plus the fact that I believe the 1C's are less than 8 ohms, might actually be 4 ohms, thus making running those amps at bridged mono dicey even without the significant negative ground issue.

I would just go with a solid no across the board on it

Correct. My 1C manual says "Greater than 4 Ohm" but mine measure right at 4 Ohm without a load. I would 2nd the no across the board.

You can't strap the negative posts together on bridged amps and when bridged they are rated for 8 ohm nominal loads only, so as Lou stated, that would be a solid no across the board.
