At my workbench, I have an inexpensive Onkyo stereo receiver hooked up to a pair of Polk R30 speakers. The setup has worked flawlessly for years. Lately, I have noticed that when I play music at low volumes, there is a lot of static. When I turn the volume up, the static goes away.

I seem to remember years ago that my dad had a similar problem, and he sprayed some type of contact cleaner onto something. If I remember correctly, the problem was solved.

Should I get some contact cleaner? If so, what part should I clean? I am guessing the contacts under the main volume knob?
