Default The sky is falling - Thoughts on FL power outages?

What does everyone think about the massive power outage in FL since 1109 today? We must have an expert in here somewhere that can give us some thoughts.

Possibly Chinese Hackers got the power grid? No that was probably just a movie I saw.

Probably the same thing that usually causes these things - all of these plants are at 98% capacity. When one dies (these things happen), it tries to pass the load off to another one, which gets overloaded and dies, and you have a domino effect.

Or, if you saw the Sarah Connor chronicles last night, maybe Cameron jammed her hand into one of the turbines so she could break into the police station :)

I love watching CNN on stories such as these. They can cover this for 5 hours and not have a single shread of news but just keep talking and hypothisizing over scenarios.

I did not notice it until someone in our building said we were working on generator power. It is going to be a fun commute tonight. Not as fun though with no power and downed trees, poles, boats in the road...

It's probably a raccoon or something that grounded out a power transformer at a sub station which has the capability to bring down multiple grids from just the surge alone. The length of time power is out depends on how easily the part that blew up is replaceable.

Just be glad it happened in Florida where the weather is pretty nice. If it happened up here in the northeast, they'd have a death count going by now. The power will be back up. Just gotta sit it out and wait. Speculation with no facts just breeds fear and since the news is just a bunch of fear-mongers anymore, it's probably good that the poor people in Florida can't get the news right now.

    Newsflash!

We just sold South FL to Cuba for several trillion dollars to help reduce the debt...the communist are now running everything. Everybody in S FL now has the same thing....NOTHING!

    actually:

MIAMI - A nuclear reactor owned by Florida's largest electric company automatically shut down Tuesday, causing sporadic power outages throughout the state that affected 3 million people. Authorities did not specify the cause of the shutdown but say there were no safety concerns.

All the electronic voting machines have been reset to vote for one specific candidate. Trust me on this.

Or maybe someone playing around that decoder-thingy in the movie "Sneakers" and accidentally shut off the juice to FL.

Writer's strike. Sure it's over but it'll still be a couple months before they can write and produce more stuff, so most series are just being cut short.

My guess is that a lucky new home owner just brought home a Krell Master Reference amp and upon flipping her on - drained the entire FL grid. It happens.
