Default Weekend Project: Front Patio Cover

Built this patio cover for my front patio between yesterday and today. The patio is quite large and needed something, so a couple weeks ago it came to me, patio cover. A little over $100 in materials and it's done, just needs a coat of paint. I do plan to cover it with an outdoor mesh netting to provide shade and then an outdoor couch and coffee table for underneath it.

It never rains in California . . .

Very nice Ron! The patio and landscaping are beautiful! A nice couch, table and some planters will complete the "garden room".

Is there a reason that you chose the width of the patio cover not to extend to the existing perimeter rail?

    Congrats on a nice job!:)

    Thanks guys.

As for the back set on the cover, I wanted it that way, bringing it out all the way to the wall would have created a box look, doing it this way creates a step look; going from the front yard, stepping up to the front wall and then stepping up to the cover. Gives it a bit more character this way.

In this area, that would've required a permit and inspections, because it's tied into the house :(. If you had built it standing on 4 legs, then you'd be fine.

I'm just jealous :). Nice work, and it does break up the patio nicely!

What happens when it snows and you want to sit on the patio?

In this area it also requires a permit, attached to the house or free standing. But, considering I spent $100 on materials I'm not spending $200 for a permit. We'll see how long it lasts or what the city will do if / when they see it. My guess, nothing, they most likely will never notice it. The only thing they could have done was red-tag me if they caught me in the act of building it.

Just say it fell from the sky if they ask about it. You can't explain how it got there or who put it there, it floated down and had a perfect landing.

Too bad you don't live closer to me-I'd hire ya to build my patio room.
