    Question Audiophile CDs By Genre

With my new 2-channel system up & running, it's time to start rebuilding my CD collection with audiophile quality. Has anyone compiled a list of audiophile recording companies by genre? For example, I have been very pleased with the jazz offerings by Mapleshade. Thank you.

K, if you're looking for great music in excellent sound you're going to be unnecessarily limiting yourself if you consider only "audiophile" companies selling at a generally higher price. One of the things that we hopefully learn early on is that there's very little correlation in audio between price and sound quality. I'll list a few specific items in my collection that are great both musically and sonically and are terrific bargains as well for starting the rebuild of your CD collection: The Planets ; Roman Festivals ; Hungarian Dances ; Rite of Spring ; Swan Lake ; Symphonic Dances . This would only total about $40 with free shipping.

Great question. This would take some effort, but if we don't have a list per genre maybe this forum should. ;)

    The best recordings of.....

    Jazz
    Rock
    Classical
    Live
    Solo
    Acoustic
    Vocals
    Big band........

You get the drift. There are many threads archived in which the members can reference in order to add to the library of "best". Will folks participate? Who knows, but it would be a good reference and one I'd be willing to help out with.
In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence.

    ^^ I'm with F1

Of course you could argue for building a great system for relatively little dough - a value system, but generally you get more when you pay more.

    In my limited experience
    more expensive receiver=better results
more expensive speaker cables = better results
    more expensive cdp=better results
    more expensive amp=better results
    more expensive IC=better results
more expensive speakers = better results
    more expensive preamp=better results
    more expensive tubes=better results

    More expensive power cord=same results

    YMMV

Well, in terms of the actual cds, a lot of them ARE hit or miss, and they're all roughly the same price.

SACDs are a little more expensive, granted, but you know you're going to get higher fidelity from them.
Lovin that music year after year.

If you are into Jazz there is a great deal of SACD for you. I would suggest you open an account with yourmusic.com do a search on title for "sacd" you will find some fine jazz, classical and even rock/pop SACD discs for very little dough..

Its not the whole pie, but a start, of course they offer thousands of title in standard Redbook, most all the Eagles and Alison Krauss discs are excellent in Redbook. Watch out for discs that have been remastered with "loudness" war being a motivator they pretty much sound like poop.
