The costs that are passed on haven't even begun to take effect. For example:

I own a small construction company and we provide our tradespeople a vehicle and expenses. We are going to have to raise the mileage allowance which will cut into costs that are already fixed by our bids. What this means is that the company will take a slimmer profit picture which always impresses bankers and bonding companies.

As another example Our concrete vendors have added surcharges to their per per yard cost. For example the cost of concrete a year ago was about 105.00 per yard and now its over 120.00, plus they instruct us to add incrementally 1.00 per yard for every 25cents per gallon increase in diesel fuel.

The public hasn't heard much about the fuel surcharges which are being tacked onto items that are trucked (almost everything). I find no fault in the method of passing on costs as a matter of fact I think that it is quite fair. I just have no way of passing on my increased costs once a contract is in hand. I suspect that a lot of merchants are stuck in the same way with shelf prices and inventory prices beginning to exhibit greater spreads.

    FWIW my 2c.

Guess it depends on your industry. I have been paying fuel surcharges for 5 years.

You wann talk about the f*cking 'costs to do business'! I spent almost 4 hours driving around, getting materials, to do a 'preventive maintenance' on a commercial store, and when I get there, I look at the paperwork, and find they've renegotiated the work requirements: $38.00 to change 4 air filters!
I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

Sounded like a joke to me... One less young driver on the road is a good thing (fwiw I'm 19).

At between $4 to $4.50 a gallon I'm not looking forward to any more increases, but it's bound to happen eventually.

Yes, and so does everyone else in the left lane.

I bet we see over $4/gallon by summer, at least in my neck of the woods, oh well, not much I can do but just drive, I love to drive and gas prices won't change that.

I don't think we'll hit the $4/gallon mark (not for regular, anyways). Oil went up on the speculation that OPEC would cut production (+$15 in a 6 weeks). Now that rumors are that OPEC will cut production, we have dropped less than $2. The oil futures market is a bubble waiting to burst, when it will happen: I don't know.

Lucky you! I just threw in $20 worth of regular at about $4.40 / gal ;) I'd take the bus but some of my work requires driving so it's not really an option. That and it'll take me 12 minutes by car or 45 by bus...
