I have a question about the proper hook-up of a preamp to a receiver utilizing home theatre bypass. I am using the HK AVR 8000 as an amplifier and preamp at the moment but have purchased an Adcom GFP-750 for a two channel music preamp. I have gone over both manuals to see what I need to do to connect them in order to continue using the AVR for home theatre processing. Doing the hook-up for preamping the mains will be easy enough, main out from the 750 to the preamp in (mains) on the AVR. The issue I am having is the processor loop. According to the manual I connect the preamp out of the AVR to the processor in of the 750 then connect the processor out of the 750 to one of the audio inputs on the AVR. The second part of that does not make since to me, but I have no experience with this type of set-up so I wouldn't know. Any help would be appreciated.

Just hook up the AVR to the processor IN on the GFP-750 and do not use the processor out connections.

So it's the AVR's front L/R pre-outs to the processor IN on the 750, and the main out's on the 750 to the amp.

And I agree, I thought the manual was confusing on this as well, not to mention it being a *very* small diagram.

well sounds like it will work, but it does not sound like a true by-pass, seems both units will be processing the signal. No? Bad juju for music.

The GFP-750 has a bypass switch, so when enabled the input from the "processor IN" input gets routed directly to the "main out" and to the amp. No processing or gain circuitry in the way (i'm taking other people's word on this, i've not opened up the unit nor would I know what i'm looking at if I did).

And for music, it's source -> main input on the GFP-750 -> amp. The AVR isn't in the loop anywhere. When using it for HT, flip the bypass switch and it's AVR -> GFP-750 (via the "processor in" inputs) -> amp.
