Wait a minute, hey, I had a CS-626Q brand-new in 1980, used the same cart, and it did not require a phono preamp. SO, I just recently got a CS-731Q that has a prob with the auto function I haven't quite figured out yet, I'm gonna see if it has output w/o the preamp. Tomorrow, it's on my list of things to do. :)

Forgot to say, that's a nice deck there, Mike, looks like new. I saw that it was available from 78-81 and cost $730 new. My 626 was quite a bit less than that, though it was identical other than the lighted display and a few other unnecessary features that didn't affect the sound.

The 731 unit I recently got came directly from Germany and I was quite disappointed that the brushed aluminum front plate wasn't used over there.

I got dogged on a German forum for using a Dual, glad to find you guys.

Running.Dog...most receivers or integrated amps back in the '70's-80's had a built in phono stage in the pre-amp section. I'd be very surprised to see any Dual TT that had a built in phono stage.

Great, thanks Fongolio, no worries then, I'm using the same Sansui CA-2000 preamp & BA-2000 power amp I used back in the day. Just need to figure out this auto function problem.
