Stereo Stand

I finally finished the new stand. After making the case for the Opus dac a standard size I needed to add a 4th shelf. I used khaya wood for the legs and curly maple for the front of the shelves. I love all the different types and colors of the wood grain. The pics dont do it justice. The maple just glows. I think I am at the great point in the mancave. It sounds great. Play with some tubes and some room treatments and I will be good for a while. Unless the new ESS dac from Twister Pear Audio is hot. Then I will have to make one of those. Fun fun.

are stereo stands with three legs more sturdy than a stand with four legs? woudn't the weight be distributed more evenly if it had four legs to stand on ? very nice work though. it's pretty cool looking.

Three legs is better because you always have it perfectly balanced, no matter how irregular your floor is.

GREAT idea to have the one leg on the side; mine has three legs with the single leg in the back (as most commercial stands), and with some deep components it interferes with cables.

The three legs are from the flexy stand design. Reduces standing waves I guess. The stand weighs 47 lbs by itself and the jolida weighs 45 lbs so it is very stable. The 2 top shelves are laminated maple from an old dishwasher top. The 3rd shelf is 2 pieces of 3/4" mdf glued together. The bottom shelf is 3 pieces thick! When you knock on the shelves they dont make much sound at all. The cdp isnt going to cause any vibrations to bleed into the system. I cant see the dam buttons in the low light that I usually have when listening to music. But the white stickers I can see. Just listening to Rodrigo y Gabriela. That is a great cd. The system is sounding better than ever. Taking the base off the speakers and placing 3 small wood blocks on the concrete floor really cleaned up the midrange. It is amazing what a pair of sda-2 can do with proper placement and good electronics. The Golden ratio works very well for speaker placement. Cleaned up the bass. Allows the imaging to be heard more easily. This Opus dac is very good at imaging and bass. Much better than the monica I was using before. I will have to upgrade the x-overs on the sda-2 if I cant find a pair of sda1c. Never see those for sale in the seattle area.
