Bev & I just returned from our annual Vegas trip, here's some highlights:
- Carrot Top (Luxor)
Excellent, hillarious. I didn't expect this to be as good as it was. CT was funny as hell. The first half of the show literally had me in tears, the second half, though funny, not as much so as the first half. 4 out of 5 stars.
- Jay White (Neil Diamond impersonator, The Riviera)
Let me preface this by saying, I HATE impersonators, generally, but Bev is a big ND fan so I thought she would get a kick out of it--it turned out to be very good. This guy not only looks like Neil, he sounds exactly, dare I say better? than the real deal. 3.5 out of 5 stars. This guy doesn't come off contrived like most impersonators do, because they over do it; this guy gets it just right.
- Phantom of the Opera (Venetian)
What can you say, the broadway hit was wonderful. 5 out of 5 stars. Of course the *******s that show up late will irratate--and why the theater allows them in late, I have no idea.
- Miscellaneous observations about Vegas in general
Many older casino's are getting face-lifts. I was really impressed with Tropicana and the Riviera as they were getting borderline nasty. Both looked great. Cabby talk reveals that Circus Circus and the Flamingo are next on the "facelift" list. The Vegas "City Center" project is underway and looks really cool. Condo's from the $350,000's and up, casinos, etc. Located between Monte Carlo and Bellagio. We tried the Monte Carlo this time, and were very impressed with our Monaco Suite. Service/food/gambling was all good, prices reasonable.
The buffet food seems to have improved quite a bit, another plus. And, yes, we returned to work because we didn't jackpot. LOL
