    Default Vegas show reviews...

Bev & I just returned from our annual Vegas trip, here's some highlights:

    - Carrot Top (Luxor)
Excellent, hillarious. I didn't expect this to be as good as it was. CT was funny as hell. The first half of the show literally had me in tears, the second half, though funny, not as much so as the first half. 4 out of 5 stars.

    - Jay White (Neil Diamond impersonator, The Riviera)
Let me preface this by saying, I HATE impersonators, generally, but Bev is a big ND fan so I thought she would get a kick out of it--it turned out to be very good. This guy not only looks like Neil, he sounds exactly, dare I say better? than the real deal. 3.5 out of 5 stars. This guy doesn't come off contrived like most impersonators do, because they over do it; this guy gets it just right.

    - Phantom of the Opera (Venetian)
What can you say, the broadway hit was wonderful. 5 out of 5 stars. Of course the *******s that show up late will irratate--and why the theater allows them in late, I have no idea.

    - Miscellaneous observations about Vegas in general
Many older casino's are getting face-lifts. I was really impressed with Tropicana and the Riviera as they were getting borderline nasty. Both looked great. Cabby talk reveals that Circus Circus and the Flamingo are next on the "facelift" list. The Vegas "City Center" project is underway and looks really cool. Condo's from the $350,000's and up, casinos, etc. Located between Monte Carlo and Bellagio. We tried the Monte Carlo this time, and were very impressed with our Monaco Suite. Service/food/gambling was all good, prices reasonable.

The buffet food seems to have improved quite a bit, another plus. And, yes, we returned to work because we didn't jackpot. LOL

I'll be back at the Riv' for a week in may. 8'th year in a row. I expect to shed a tear again this year as I walk out to the strip and look at what SHOULD be the Stardust sports book entrance. Can't wait to see the reno's at the Riv.

Once again, for my 7th time in 7 years, I must return to this accursed city in July. To me this city is 1 large artificial breast. Big and flashy with no substance. What I do not understand is how they allow more building. Lake Mead is down over 100 ft. They predict complete dry up within 12 years. If that happans, Vegas is gone; no water or electricity. Maybe it is natures way of doing the right thing. :)

Lake Meade is looking much better than it has in the past 4 years, but it is still low.

Keep in mind the Riviera hasn't been "transformed" or anything; just much better organized, far cleaner, new carpet, etc.

We stayed at the Hilton and did the Star Trek Experience. It ruled. Vegas in general rules. I love it there. We only had a week so it just wasn't enough time to do all the things we wanted to do.

We will be going back this year or next.

Oh I completely understand that. Improvement is always good though. They re-did a bunch of the rooms as well.

[QUOTE=steveinaz;837701]Bev & I just returned from our annual Vegas trip, here's some highlights:

Next time you go I would highly recommend you see the Beatles "LOVE" show at the Mirage. It's incredible!! The music sounds amazing in that theatre and the show is fantastic. IMO the best show I've seen in Vegas. Don't buy the most expensive tickets, there is a lot of action that happens up high so it's actually better to sit about mid high in the theatre.

Absolutely, We've seen 2 of the Cirque Du Soliel shows and were amazed by both. "LOVE" and Elton John Red Piano are on our to-do list for the next trip...

I saw cirque du soliel Mystere (4/5) and "O" (5.5/5).

Mystere was the one they went to in "Knocked Up." Pretty good. There were a few really cool parts, but it kind of dragged and I even fell asleep for a bit (went right after a big dinner).

O was phenomenal, and I don't usually go for shows. I would probably go see it again. If you are into engineering, you'll probably be amazed by the stage as much as anything. Constantly moving and changing. One minute people will be running around on it like a conventional stage, the next people will be diving into a 10 ft pool from 50 feet up. Amazing. Acrobatics and everything are top knotch.

I heard that they used all the water keeping Megatron frozen all those years...
