Default Purchased a new receiver (suggestions please)

I ended up buying the Denon AVR-888. I was thinking about getting one of the Onkyos but decided it wasn't worth getting an AVR with internal DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD decoding since the PS3 decodes those formats internally.

So far I am very pleased with its performance, especially hearing uncompressed, and the next gen audio formats on Blu-ray titles. I have three weeks to return it if I find something else I would prefer but so far I must say I am very impressed.

I am open to recommendations and suggestions from everyone. Let me know if you think I took a proper route.

Alright, I guess no one has recommendations then.

Regardless I can hear a substantial difference in the performance in regards to the uncompressed audio to Sirius radio (highly compressed). I am quite pleased with the audio quality the Denon delivers.

There is definitely a noticeable difference going from DD5.1 and DTS Core to the newer formats. One of the most noticeable things is being able to hear that different layers in the sound design as well as the dynamic range.

If you like the sound stay with what you have!. The only reason people like to have the receiver do the decoding is to see the dolby trueHD on the display. Which is one of the reasons i bought the onkyo 805 but now that i think about it thats dumb. I love the 805 but the denon 888 is a great receiver and i would stay with it. If you need another amp down the road you will have pre-outs anyways. Great choice and it does look like you are going to lose that receiver due to gravity lol

There is no comparison, the difference is that much. Nice receiver! I have an Onkyo 705 showing up today to replace my outdated Outlaw950.

How so, the Onkyo is smaller.

    Thanks for the feedback gents!

In regards to the shelf, there is actually only a subtle bow in it and it actually the camera lens which is exaggerating it a lot.

Still not as big as the Denon. Just in height alone the Denon is almost 5" taller.

Ron, I was just making a bit of fun on the shelf beding under the weight of the eqipment, but as Mutelight said is just a camera effect...

I agree with everyone else if you like the sound and you feel you got your money's worth then keep it.

Thanks, I really want to order an 805 but I desperately need a matching center for my setup, so that will have to come first.

After watching a few movies now in DTS-MA, Dolby TrueHD, and uncompressed PCM I can honestly say it almost brings a tear to my eye. The imaging is many times better and the Denon has breathed new life into my speakers. Even my friends who aren't audio savvy could almost swear I had replaced my entire system. I am watching The Fifth Element in PCM right now and I am hearing things I have never heard in the mix before. For those that have a BD player which internally decodes the newer formats and are on the hunt for a new AVR I can not recommend the Denon enough and hope you all consider it during your hunt for the ideal receiver.

I was quite happy with the Pioneer that I owned previously and wondered how much of a difference a new AVR would make with the monitor line speakers I am running and now I wonder how I watched movies and listened to music before this upgrade.

Time to watch all your movies again, for the first time. Every TrueHD mixed I listened to via my HD-A1 was that same experience.

I had the Pioneer VSX-1015TX before and I picked up the Denon for $500 roughly a week ago at Circuit City.
