XP vs. Vista DVD copying.. er, I mean, backing up

We have an Win XP PC. We have a Vista laptop.

Last night I tried to backup two DVDs using DVD Shrink and Decryptor, and got errors almost immediately on the laptop. They both went fine on the XP.

It seems that either Vista, or newer versions of Windows Media Player, have some sort of built in copy protection that kicks in.

Is it possible to make settings changes in Vista or on the Vista machine so that I can copy the same disks on that machine as I can on the XP machine?

I've had no problems in Vista with either program, works the same as it worked in XP.

I use a freeware app called deep burner to copy the .iso files. (I use DVD shrink to create the .iso and then burn the .iso with deep burner)

seems to work ok - give it a shot.

I wouldn't use the current version of VISTA if Microsoft paid me a daily stipend. I'm perfectly fine with my XP-Pro. Sorry couldn't add anything of value, but VISTA seems to have a lot of different issues as you've found out.

The way I figured it out . after 3 more years Vista will be ready to use.... as was xp and previous versions ...............................

I use AnyDVD with either Nero Recode or CloneDVD.

Works Great on my 166Mhz with MMX machine running Millenium Edition!!!

Seriously I have a Vista machine and Shrink works, albeit slowly, without errors. If you are getting the "redundancy" error I would try DVD Fab HD.
That seems to work on the newer discs released lately that Shrink has problems with.

Rip-it-4-me was a cool one click solution, but I believe "the man" caught up with it and it's still out there, but hiding.
