Default What a terrible sounding subwoofer

I have a 3.1 channel setup for my 350 tp 400 sq ft hometheater room and I wanted to upgrade my Yamaha YST-SW305 subwoofer, so yesterday at Best Buy, I bought the Klipsch Snergy Sub-10 subwoofer. When I got home to try it out, the bass coming from it was very muddy, boomy, distorted and sounded like a very cheap subwoofer. Today on my lunch break from work, I went to Frys and bought the Polk Audio DSW Pro 400 subwoofer. I just tried out the DSW Pro 400 about a few hours ago, and I really like this sub. It has clean and smooth bass, and I did not hear any distortion coming from it. I feel that the DSW Pro 400 is in a league to two leagues higher then the Klipsch Syengry Sub-10. I will be returning the overpriced Klipsch subwoofer back to Best Buy and I will be selling my Yamaha subwoofer.

Here are the specs from my 3.1 channel setup when I done this comparison.
    1. Sony DVP-NS700H DVD Player
    2. Panasonic DMP-BD30 Blu-ray player
    3. Yamaha RX-V1800 Receiver
    4. Polk Audio CSi30 Center Speaker
    5. Polk Audio RTi38 Front Speakers

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you made the right choice (pun intended)
You wouldn't be the 1st person to come here and scratch your head regarding the quality of Klipsch.
I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

Klipsch Synergy subs (including older KSW series) are garbage compared to most subs in their "league" (price/size/power).
On the other hand, Klipsch Reference series is great, but those subs are much pricier than Synergy.

I would agree. The lower end ones are not that great, even the RT-12D I listened to at Ultimate Electronics sounded like garbage, and its $2k!!

Yeah, a friend of mine has a Klipch, and it's everything I don't like in a sub. Boomy, muddled, undefined bass, but it's small and it fits their decor well.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

Yea, can you return the sub, if so do it & get an SVS or something else. There are some great choices in subs out there, you don't need to keep that POS if it sounds horrid. Good luck and please keep us posted.

I think he likes his Polk DSW Pro 400.
An excuse is a reason to fail.
