    Default Speed Racer

Let me preface this with I didn't really have much hope for this film... but I went along because it was supposed to be a fun relaxing night with no worries.

I was amazed at the movie! Blew me away with how good it really was. Rated PG kinda had me worried that it would be kids only humor or whatever, but it was funny, exciting, very original, and best of all, artsy. Very family friendly, with a "Leave it to beaver" feel. At the same time, I felt like it was a 2200AD year, but it blended seamlessly.

I would go see it again tonight! It was that good. Great humor at the right times, very very cool car stunts (Yes, I know most were fake or CGI or whatever) but they looked amazing and pulled you right in.

If you are on the fence on this one, spend the money and enjoy. I think you will come away smiling, and wishing you had a car like his ;)

    8.5 outta 10 here folks.

Gonna take the kids to see it at IMAX next weekend...after the crowds settle down a bit. Pleas no spoilers.

Warnings about motion sickness with this movie. Thats what I was told. Friends were letting me know because I have children.

I never once felt sick during this film at all... we did sit in the very back of the theater, and it was a big screen, but it wasn't even in the same category as say, Cloverfield. The stunts were all amazingly done, and the cars, well futurist cars. Loved them.

This will be a blind buy for me, too many poor reviews coming in to warrant a theater viewing.

This is an interesting movie. It's somewhat like watching Sin City on fast forward through a kaleidoscope. Some of the action was too fast to follow but not motion sickness camera work like Bourne. The middle of the movie dragged. Although advertised as a family movie, the duration is too long for little kids (saw many parents walking their little ones out after they started to wonder around). Corny and the humor felt forced at times.

BUT! Ends with a bang and wraps up magnificently. Loved the ending. The chimp kills me. Highly recommended as a rental. Won't keep younger children's attention.

I saw this last night at an IMAX. Very impressive visuals. Perhaps a little over the top with the gravity defying moves. Bright colorful and loud. Superb movie for the IMAX. Story was full of cheeze but hey....it is Speed Racer after all. Best actor is Speed's chubby little brother Spridal . Oh ya and his monkey. Try not to OD on the cgi. Two thumbs up (from me and my 12 year old boy).

    Thumbs up

Picked this up today in Wide Screen DVD. Missed it in the theatres, wife wasn't interested.

Corny, colorful, eyecandy. Pretty good 5.1 digital surround. Very well cast. Kept in the tradition of the cartoon. I'd recommend this one as a blind buy.

You think the DVD looks good, you should see it in HD. I spun it last night on the ole' 100" screen in 1080p... and MAN, do the colors pop! It's like a unicorn vomited rainbows on your screen.

    :p :p :p ;)

You got it on blu sensei? My player up-converts to 1080p. It looked pretty nice on my lowly 40" Sammy. :o

I rented this, Netflix delivered the Blu disc today. Because Warner cut costs buy nixing a lossless track I won't buy it. No lossless = No sale!

Uhm... no, I haven't invested in a Blu-Ray player... but let's just say I have it in 1080p and leave it at that. :D

I'm half way though and will finish the rest tomorrow. The video is 5/5, the audio 2/5. Compared to a lossless track; it's flat, weak, and lifeless, other then some low bass moments. I'd love to own this but with such a crappy audio track, no way.

Way to **** up a reference Blu-ray disc Warner!

I rented this yesterday in BD...didn't even look at the audio options. I'll spin it tonight, but I agree with Ron P, there's no excuse for not getting us a lossless audio version.

I liked it and I wasn't sold that I would. Simple plot, but with complications that would probably confuse small frys. Pushing Daisy's color scheme, vibrant is too tame a word for the eye candy...which is over-the-top and quite fun. Truly a reference video disk put out in BD-25 when it needed 50...WTF?

Yeah, I can see where this would suck for you blu guys. Visually, it's stunning, even on SD DVD. I was really impressed. Too bad they shorted y'all on blu for the lossless audio.
