Santan Abraxas with sonic holography wow!!!

I just received today a very clean copy of Santana's Abraxas and played it tonight on the old TT with the Hafler amp and Carver pre with sonic holography on and I was blown away with the dimension this album takes on the Carver. The bongos are way out wide and low down. The organ off to the right and mid way up and above everything dead center Carlos' guitar clear and beautiful. Best example of this Carver technology I've heard yet. And on an album almost 40 years old. Wow!!

I have read that the 180 g greatest hits of Neil Young is jaw dropping. I haven't heard it yet.. but I keep reading about how amazingly well sounding it is. ;)

I never got into the Holography when I had my Carver gear set up. Maybe it was my particular unit, but it seemed to introduce a good deal of noise.

Have you gotten to listen to any SDA's yet? If not, you owe it to yourself to find a pair. IMO, a much more natural presentation when compared to the Sonic Holography.

No danger boy it was actually an old copy just in good shape. And no strider I haven't yet heard SDA's but I sure want to. In the meantime though, I'm very happy with the Carver setup played on my RTiA7's.

The Carver hologram generator has sounded horrible to me for about 20 years now. I just keep using it you know.

SDA's are better. I have both. For none SDA speaker it is good but it all depends on what song is playing.

I saw a hologram generator on e-bay today while sifting through the carver stuff.being a rookie & all , what does a hologram generator do exactly ??

It electronically attempts to nullify interaural cross-talk. It tries to make it so that your left ear only hears the left speaker, and the right ear only hears the right speaker.

The exact same problem that Polk attempts to address with SDA technology.

Both technologies have pros and cons, and avid followers. This being a Polk website, largely inhabited by avid SDA fans, you can figure out the rest.

Either technology, when applied properly, can extend the soundstage far beyond the physical confines of the speakers themselves, and a great deal of front "depth" is enhanced.

You can get a hologram generator pretty cheap most of the time. Fun to play with but setup is critical. If you don't follow the setup, it doesn't work at all. Done right, SH is very good.
