Your opinion for a new bee

Ok so I have only had TIB stuff and this is my first attempt for a good system, I need your opinions on what I am thinking.

Front L/R will be a pair of rc85I's center will be a LCI-C and the L/R Rears are RC80I's, for power I am thinking a ONKYO 605 as I dont play games or any of that other stuff so I only need two HDMI inputs.

Now I listen to the radio and once a week watch DVD's not to loud but enough to be felt, my problem is my room is about 18X25 with hardwood floors, 12 ft ceilings, smooth walls, and only enough room to hang a Plasma.

Questions....

1. Will this sound good bad or ok
2. what do I do about a sub or do I need one
3. What is highest the front L/R and center speaker can be located
4. Is this a decent setup for a non audiofile

All opinions would be great before I go and spend 1500.00 on stuff

First off, welcome to Club Polk. Now to your questions....

1. That is purely subjective. I'm a two channel guy so I can't really comment on an HT rig I have no experience with.
2. A sub with your proposed setup and room size would be recommended. Check out the DSW lineup.
3. It is recommended not to go over ear height whilst in the listening position.
4. Again subjective. From what is listed, you should be happy [as a non-audiophile] until upgradititis sets in.

Welcome Mike. You have mismatched speakers. They should either be all rci or all lci. Do not mix & match. It would sound wierd & the speakers are ohm mismatched.

You should upgrade the receiver to at least the 705 to get preamp outputs for future upgradability.

You can put your center at any height, as long as it's pointed in the direction of your seating position.

I would place the center as close as possible to the TV either above it or below it. Too high and it's not going to sound like the dialog is coming from the screen.

Well the mismatch is a problem because I cant afford the whole LCI series for the surrounds but they dont make a RCI built in center..

What do I do??

Ok so if I go all RC85I's and maybe a 705 reciever what do I do for the center chanel.

Also I was going to put the front L/R rc85i's in the wall on the sidea of my TV and the center on top.

Well, it was a long hard weekend of remodeling the living room....

So I have all the RC85I's up and the LCI-C in and all I can say is wow... I love the Onkyo 705 it sure does drive the surround. Thanks for the help out here and now for a sub, what do you all suggest?

Hey Mike. Have you checked this one out? It has the room optimizer, front firing woofer and a cool ass little remote for fine tuning in the listening position.

Now if you could stretch just a little more coin out, say $200 more yo could get the top of the DSWpro series sub.

There is also a 10" sub right in between the two models already shown that's just 89 smackers above your price point and currently has a five-star rating.

The room optimizer on all three subs will help blend the frequencies to the room acoustics which is not found on many subs at this price point. Food for thought...
