Default It is really bad when a video game...

calls you obese. Picked up Wii Fit today. It is actually pretty fun, and you can work up a bit of a sweat too. I didn't play long, but some of the exercises like push up/plank are pretty tough as they make you do them really slowly! ouch!

Well I'm 6 foot, 249.5 lbs and 30 years old, and the Wii called me obese and said my Wii age is 52! Now it goes by BMI along with some balance tests which is a bad way to go I think. They should have put %body fat sensors instead of relying on BMI.

Now I was wondering how well this would work on carpet as my scale is off by 20+ lbs on carpet and sure enough the Wii Fit read 225lbs. Then I tried these feet extenders that come with the Wii Fit to help the accuracy and it went up to 249.5lbs which should be very close. I'll see what the gym scale says tomorrow but 249.5 sounds like +/- 1.5 lbs to me.

Overall I think this will be somewhat entertaining. Makes it really easy to track your weight if nothing else. Plus the mini games are kind of fun.

BMI is crap if you are under 18 or have a non-average build.

    Very bad for kids.

bmi is pretty stupid. im 6'0 and my weight range is like 140 to 180lbs. saying that 140 is healthy for someone is 6'0 is retarded.

I agree. Bodyfat % is the only way to go. When I weighed 145 at 5'8 I had people telling me I needed to gain weight and I was way too skinny. 150 is a very good weight for me because I have more muscle than the average girl bear.

Lots of talk on the Wii Fit and it saying people to include kids are obese. Some parents have gone to the extent of calling up Nintendo with complaints. Im sure they will eventually change it, but understand its a game. Japanese will call you fat in a heartbeat regardless of how well you think youre built.

    220 and 6'2".

I just ate half a can of Pringles, but I washed it down with a can of Diet Dr. Pepper.

You tubbies ought to be more proactive in your diet. ;)

At Dave & Busters they have a boxing video game that'll get a pretty good sweat going. We always thought that it'd be a cool thing to have on an Xbox or Sony, so it's nice to see that the Wii folks have a fitness product out like that.

It's kind of funny, if you're actually fat you can't even stand on the thing because you'll be over the weight limit and break it.

You know, as nice as a 32 inch waist sounds, it's getting harder to find pants.

WAL*MART carries limited stock of any waist size smaller than 34 inches anymore because they "don't sell as well". At least the WAL*MARTS in my area do.

When ever I go to a store and find a jeans in a 31 or 32 waist, I buy as many as I can 'cause I don't know when the next time I will find them will be. Unless I buy designer jeans and they just don't hold up to the abuse like a pair of Wranglers or Levis do.

Oh and 5 foot 7 maybe a smidgen taller and 168 pounds with a 31 inch waist and I'm still "obese". I probably have a body fat percentage under 10%. Dunno. Never really had it measured.

Try finding a 29" waist/29 length. Nearly impossible.
Demi- don't be too hard on yourself. Just imagine the shame and embarassment I go through shopping in the Emo section. You can be damned sure I rather be in the Husky section at Sears.

Zombie, I see a lot of those sizes at Banana Republic / Nautica. Then again, every now and then I am known to dip into the metrosexual side of things (woot, another quote worthy statement).

Oh no, I understand. Used to be 29 waist 30 length when I was a teenager. Being 31 waist 30 length is still just as tough. I often buy 32 waist pants and just cinch up the belt to alleviate the frustration.

The real embarrassment is when you ask a stock clerk if they have anything in a 30 inch waist or smaller and they point you to the "Boys" section and tell you to look through the "husky" sizes. Yeah, that used to suck.

Now I have the problem of getting fitted for a suit or shirt. I have a 44 inch chest and a 31 inch waist and a 17 1/4 inch neck. Try finding shirts that aren't garishly ugly for those sizes. I went suit shopping a few weeks ago and they were trying to fit me in an "athletic cut" but my shoulders were still pulling on the back. So I went to a 46 sized jacket. But I looked like a Romulan so I had to get a 46 short and they let the sleeves out a half inch.

Do you believe that they actually have an "executive cut"? It's mostly for guys with a gut so big it has it's own gravitational pull. The jacket has extra material to be able to adequately wrap around the rotundness.

I guess I should get back on subject though. I've never played Wii Fit. My brother has a Wii and he plays with his Wii all the time. I mock him profusely about it just like any immature older brother would. His only saving grace is that his girlfriend plays with his Wii too. He works at a GameStop too and what is really frustrating is that he will not buy a PS3 for me with his discount because he believes it sucks and is a tool of the devil. He's such a jerk. I think I glue his Wii controllers together.

I have played Wii sports though and they were disgustingly easy. I was quickly bored with it. I long for the days of Nintendo when MegaMan and Super Mario Brothers ruled the roost.
