SVS pb12 plus/2

I did it. I went off the deep end (no pun intended). I was going to buy the SVS pb12 plus/maple from the B-stock, but I did not like the maple. But, I did not want to invest the money in something that I did not 100% like at any price. The Plus/2 was only $100 more than the Plus on clearance. I rationalized taking twice the sub for just a bit more money. And, that is how I rationalized the purchase (even though most of it was a graduation gift). Someone convince me that I made the right decision:D. Anyone have any good literature on setting up and dialing in a sub woofer ?

As for setup, SPL meter and Avia. I found some very helpful setup info at one time, but I don't recall where I found it. I'll post it for you if I can locate it. If no one else posts a link, search this forum as well as doing a google search. Should be able to find something.

PSOVLSK, hit it dead center. The plus/2 is a monster sub. Once you fire it up, its going to rock your room. Agreed, make sure you get the spl meter from radioshack and test cd, the test tones in your AVR will work also. I felt the Plus/2 was so good I added a second one to my room. Insane bass you can feel. Enjoy that bad boy.;)

I am going to put it the "cave" down below the Samsung Series 6 to start. The cave was original a hearth for a wood burner, but I got tired of cutting wood, so it became an HT cave. The cave is roughly 4 ft deep and 8 ft wide. Two sides of it are brick and the third is drywall. I am wondering how this will echo the down firing sub. I hope it blasts everything right out into my family room that is roughly 16X22 with an adjacent open stairway.

Man, I don't see how anyone needs that much woof! I have a 20-39CS+ and in my 12'x18' room, it'll pressurize the room and make the storm windows groan!

My HT room is carpet on concrete and the walls are 90% used brick. I wondered myself if I needed that much woof. I will know soon.

Pay there is no such thing as too much woof dude. Just make sure it is calibrated and this will be the absolute best upgrade you have done to your system.

Dual Subs is the Shiznit. Allot of us here on boards run duals. Its insane but it sounds awesome.

Do yourself a favor and buy a Velodyne SMS-1 to go with that new sub, that way it can setup all the stuff for you. I did for mine and that made the world of difference.

I bought mine off ebay (NIB) for $400 shipped.

I'm running my SVS 20-39CS+ with a Buttkicker LFE under the couch, 500w to each from a Samson rackmount amp. Does that count as dual subs? :D

Wow, thats an insane setup also. How do you like the buttkickers? I was thinking of adding some in my setup, I'm just not familiar with them. And adding additional SVS sub would put u in the dual setup category. I highly recommend it. You could always sell it if you didnt like it.

Got any test tone discs? I played 16hz through my PB2+ when I first got it and was blown away. I had a Earthquake Supernova before that and the SVS easily bested it in how deep it could go, the amount of bass, and overall tonality.

As for a buttkicker + SVS, when I had the Earthquake it was needed to fill in 20hz and below, with the SVS it just reinforces it. It does somethings a SVS could never do, like playing 5-10hz signals, so it is different then getting dual subs. Tactile transducers are awesome.

I am waiting by the door like a dog waiting for its owner to come with dinner. I am going to set it up at its native 20hz first and if that works out well I will port it down to 16 and probably still have enough power to pressurizes the room. I had looked at a butt kicker, maybe next year.

Native tune for the PB12+/2 is 25hz with variable tuning, 1 port = 20, 2 ports = 16hz. For some rooms plugging both leaves the sub slightly under-ported. I doubt you'll have a problem in your room. In 20hz tune you should still get flat extention down to ~ 16hz with room gain. Be prepared to hunt down rattles and groans throughout the house when the real low stuff hits.

The Buttkicker is a great addition. I have it dialed back so you really don't notice it until around 30Hz, and I have a subsonic filter on the SVS to roll it off at 18Hz. My floor is carpet on concrete and the Buttkicker vibrates the couch in such a way that it feels almost like I have a wood floor. It definitely adds to the effect if you don't set it ridiculously high. Also gives a slight tactile feel to music that I enjoy.

No dual subs for me just yet. Today, I have an Eye One Display LT colorimeter coming in so I can tune my Sanyo PLV-Z2000 projector to D65. Gotta' stop buying equipment for a while and bask in the warm glow of what I already have. :D

mine did not give good results initially due to long sub IC , its fixed now. makes the whole ht experience a lot more fun :D

Installed it today and WOW what a difference and I'm running two MBM-12's (one with each main with xover of 100hz), and two HSU 3.3's. It is worth the $$$$$. Make sure you follow the directions and you will have no problems. I'm running it "flat" with no "lift" and it has the WOW factor.
