Default Roger Waters Pros And Cons of Hitchhiking

I listened to this cd last night for the first time in a while, certainly the first time since I rebuilt my SDA crossovers and beefed up my 2-channel rig.

Wow, that album is so great. Obviously the genius of Waters shines through, but Eric Clapton is amazing, and there's some awesome piano and sax.

The album has so much punch and dynamic range. I find it to be a brilliant recording.

Anyone else an admirer of this recording? Love it? Hate it? Why?
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

I like the music just fine.

I like the cover art better!

Yeah, it is a great cover.

I've never picked up any of Roger Waters' solo stuff. Does it have a decidedly different sound than that of Pink Floyd?

I've heard some of David Gilmour's solo stuff and it seemed pretty mellow -- there was definately a strain of Pink Floyd within, yet without the other members it wouldn't be confused for a Pink Floyd album, by any stretch.

I was never really impressed with this album. I've always thought
both Gilmore and Waters solo stuff never came close to the best
Pink Floyd. Clapton is a fantastic guitarist but does not save this
    mediocre effort.

Even Gilmores Pink Floyd without Waters is really pretty lame.

Have you tried listening to it with good gear? I remember hearing it 20 years ago in college before I got my first real system and not being overly amazed. Put it down for a long time until a few years ago when I heard people raving about it on headfi. I gave it a go through some real equipment and thought, "Wow, I've had this disc for years and haven't listened to it!!!" I just find it to be extremely well recorded, so much punch to the sound.

I've always been a bigger admirer of Waters' solo stuff than Gilmour's, and to me the Waters-less Floyd just sounds like solo Gilmour with Mason and Wright as contributing artists (not to mention all the other musicians that were playing along). I saw Gilmour's Floyd live several times, and although I still found all the old stuff perfectly enjoyable, I never really liked more than a handful of their new tunes. And as good as the concerts were (so many lasers, special effects, stuff flying all around the stadium, sound coming from all directions, etc...), I couldn't help but feeling like I was seeing a Floyd cover band. It just never felt like the real thing.

I've seen Waters live several times as well. The highlight was last year when I saw him 4th row at Madison Square Garden, where he did DSOTM start to finish, with Mason sitting in. Much more true to the real Floyd sound, he didn't have 20 people on stage like Gilmour did. Amazing show. He did Sheep, which is one of my fave's.

I don't have that Album, but I do have "In the flesh live" and it is amazing... I also have the DVD and the video and audio mix is spectacular.

Gilmore's solo stuff was pretty mediocre, but I picked up "On an Island Live at Royal Albert Hall" on BluRay, and it is very very good.

I have Amused as well, also a great album. I've got the Sony 24K gold version of it. I do like Pros & Cons better though. Perhaps it's the Clapton factor, maybe it's that Roger's younger and his voice is a bit better, dunno. Notice how nobody recommends Radio Kaos. That one's pretty weak...

I think your opinion is fairly subjective.
