    Default Compact CD Player

I have a friend looking for a compact but good quality CD player - must be SS. It's a bedroom rig and he already has a tube integrated. Rather than use a regular size CD player he wants something where the footprint is small. This is primarily for using his headphones and still wants to use CD's and not other formats. Something under $1K. Any ideas? Thanks.

You could take a look at this, although it is an SACD player:

11" wide, retails for $1200, though I'm sure it can be had for less.

I like the X-Ray recommendation but we heard these at CES and they were GOLDEN....grossly overbuilt and half chassis. You're looking for the Primo CDP.

That Shanling joystick / control toggle is neat.

The Analogue Audio stuff was sick man.

Thanks for the help folks. Great stuff. My friend seems to be leaning toward the MF but I indicated that some of the seasoned vets like the Analogue Audio. Either one would do the trick.

Looks like he is ready to pull the trigger on a MF. Nice unit. Anyone ever heard of any transport problems with the Xray like the Trivista was(is) having?

I'd go for a used Arcam or NAIM cd-player.

The Audio Analogue stuff is nice too. What I love so much about it, is that all of it is designed, built/assembled in Italy. No "made in China" stuff. That my friends, is authentic quality.

No transport issues with that player. The problem was limited to the Philips SACD/CD transport used by MF, Krell and Marantz at that time frame.
