    Default Buzzing/noise from speakers

Hi! I have an Onkyo 705 receiver and just bought polk fronts and a center (3.0 setup) to start things off with. The center is a CS1 and the fronts are monitor 40's.

The sound was phenomenal for the first day but now there is a noise/hum from the speakers even when nothing is playing?!!

I can't figure out if its the receiver or the speakers.

The 60hz hum is probably coming from the power supply. I think Radio might sell a ground loop that removes that hum you are talking about.

It could be possible that your + and - are wrong. Sometimes if you reverse them it removes that hum as well

I'm no expert so correct me if i am wrong.

disconnect everything except your speakers... see if the hum is present.. start adding your components to your receiver and see if the hum comes back. that will determine the cause of the hum...

Do you have a cable box hooked up?

Nope, just a PS3 to the HDMI in. I'll try hooking up the VCR and see if it produces a hum.

When I disconnected my PS3 from the receiver the hum stopped - but was that because "no signal" was present and the receiver wasn't outputting anything - or was the PS3 the problem? I am going to try connecting my old DVD player and check the results.

Heya, it could be the ground loop. It seems odd since the PS3 and the TV are the only thing connected to the receiver and all components are plugged into the same power strip.

I also added my old DVD player to the receiver and there was no hum...so it is the PS3. Is the ground loop breaker from Radio the best bet?
