It always amazes me how the folks that are the biggest gun nuts (and usually NRA members) also claim to be such devout christians. I own 3 guns myself, but I have always failed to see the connection between Jesus and guns. Just an observation.

Probably when you essentially said peace and gun ownership are somehow at odds with one another. What does someone being a Christian have ANYTHING to do with owning a gun or being an NRA member?

I don't think the margin really matters. I think the message has been sent to our politicians that protection of our personal freedoms is a hot-issue, and that "the people" are the primary first-responders to any crisis or threat. It's not really a total "gun" issue.

If we want to protect society, there are far more productive ways to allocate the multi-millions of dollars spent on the "gun" debate. Making swimming pools and cars safer will save more children's lives. Keeping criminals in jail will better protect the elderly.

But yes, there does seem to be some level of hypocrisy in being a follower of jesus, who said to turn the other cheek and to love your enemies and to be so crazy about guns. I dont understand the failure to at least recognize this conflict.

Exactly--it's an important milestone in the continued decaying rights we have as Americans. It gives us as the people, a guarantee that government will work for us, and if need be, we can jerk a knot in their ass if they forget who they are suppose to be serving.
