I would post the question again in the car audio section. (under the black bar labeled "on the move" on the main forum page)

may get more hits there. Anyway - looks nice, congrats.

    Heya,

Did you buy these new? If so, you should have got a manual explaining what to do. If not, check this link for a manual : http://www.polkaudio.com/downloads/m...CoaxManual.pdf

But yes, you need to use the x-over. The x-over filters out the bass from the tweeter, and the higher and lower frequencies from the mid (the frequencies a sub and tweeter would normally play).
If you plug the speaker staright into the amp, you could damage one of the components.

basically, plug the amp onto the side that says something to the effect of 'to amp out' (as can be seen on page 5 of that link I sent you.
The other 2 outputs will goto the tweeter and mid, they should be marked accordingly.

When you get a sub, you would need to filter out all the upper frequencies (around 100hz up, depending on what you want).
You can normally do that by using the amp itself, which have bult in x-overs.

    hope that helps,
    cya

the output of the x-over goes to the speakers, and the 'other side' goes to the amp.

You will have 2 outputs on one side (one for tweeter and one for woofer/mid). The other side will be the input from the amp to the x-over.

    Basically like this

AMP----> X-over ======> Speakers (2 outputs, one for mid, one for tweeter).

the whole point of the x-over, as said, is to filter out frequencies to the speakers. This stops them from being damaged, and also lets them play to their full potential, by only handling the frequencies they are made for (tweeters high freq, mid middle to low).

Check the manual out though, it explains everything better than I can.

No separate amp in your car, in this case, it would go to your headunit.
