Default Polk MMC570 or MMC650? Will these essentially sound the same?

    Hello everyone.

I am considering buying some Polk MMC570's for my Ford. I am already using Polk MMC650's in another car and love them. My question is....will I hear any sound difference between the Momo 570 and the Momo 650?

I sometimes hear negative things about 5x7's but don't know if these are true or myth.

    Thanks in advance.

You will hear a difference because of the different shapes that they are but you will still have a great sounding system. You might also hear a difference because of the vehicle it is in and how the shape of it is different from your other vehicle.

    thanks Big.

How would you describe the difference between an oval and a round speaker? Would you say that the round is more accurate?

Well I would say that the round woofers would be more accurate. They don't have different angles in there shape like a oval does. But newer technology have allowed manufactures to create better and stronger woofers. So a circle woofer will still be preferred but ovals are still not bad.

Nothing at all wrong with a quality made oval speaker. The thing is that a round speaker is generally more rigid than an oval one and more resistant to distortion. However, if the oval speaker is well made like the Momo's then itll be plenty rigid and you get the benefit of extra cone area (more midbass).

If the 5x7's will drop in, get em.

Another difference between oval and round. Round drivers will have a consistent beaming effect of upper frequencies, while oval will have a difference between the narrower and wider side. You will hear a difference depending on which way the oval speaker is pointed.

Thanks guys! I think I have decided to go with the MMC570's.

Crutchfield says they don't fit, strange b/c the DB571's fit. I bet a simple spacer will make the MMC570 fit unless the tweeter sticks too far out and hits the door panel. The car is a Ford Ranger 2008.

I'll let you know how it works out.

    Thanks again!

Got the Momo 570's. Installed them with some dynamat and they sound great. Midbass is fantastic (Good call Macleod) better than the 650's. Still need to be broken, so knowing they will even sound better makes this a great buy.

    Thanks everyone for the help.

I think it's now time to replace my crap sub :)
