Parasound HCA-1206, Velodyne DPS-12, Vintage Stereo system

So I'm funding a sonosub build and this stuff has to go. I would prefer to have local pick up on most of this stuff as shipping in most cases would be very expensive, but if you want me to check, feel free to ask. I'll accept (and prefer) cash, money order, or Paypal (+3% for fees). Prices are OBO and deals are easier to make with multiple sales. As for trades, the main things I'm looking for are for my sonosub. So, If you have 5 of 6' of 22"+ tube, a cheap, powerful amp (either about 700wpc or bridged at 4ohms) something along the lines of a Behringer EP2500, a Behringer DSP1124P Feedback Destroyer, and an SPL Meter. Otherwise, you can always ask, I might be interested in something else.

Parasound HCA-1206 amp -
I was driving my surround speakers, so I was never pushed anywhere near its limits. But it easily has the power to drive my Polk RTi12's (500w) VERY loud. This is a 6 channel amp. Channels 1&2 and 3&4 can be brigded. This amp weighs over 70lbs and is built like an absolute tank and will last forever. It sounds absolutley superb for both music and movies. I am the second owner, the first had it rack mounted for his surrounds. There are some scratches on the top right corner of the face but nothing you would notice unless you were looking for it. Velodyne DPS-12 sub -
This subwoofer is about 1 1/2 years old and is in excellent condition. The top is very glossy and has some very faint scratches, only noticable under bright light. It features a digital controller which varies the volume, power, and tuning of the sub. The driver, the connections, and the controls are perfect. This sub is very powerful and very musical. It sounds great with movies and reaches very low with power to spare. You are welcome to pick it up and hear it in person, if you like. I would also be willing to drive a bit and meet you somewhere. I would prefer not to ship it becasue of the weight and size.

Vintage Onkyo/Sony stereo system with speakers and EQ -
I got this from a friend and don't have much of a use for it. Everything works perfectly and sounds great. Quite high end when purchased. This system goes perfectly together, everything is high quality and sounds awesome together. I would prefer to sell it all together, but I will sell seperatly if the price is right.

Onkyo TX-5000
Great looking and even better sounding. The light over the fromt panel works. Highly sought after by audiophiles for its quailty. (Under)rated at 65wpc. I am not positive that the power gauges work, they jump a bit, but I'm not sure if it was just the music I was listening to.

***CD Player
Sony CDP-C445
5-Disc CD player. Sounds great and has lots of features to shape the sound. I should have the remote, but not positive. Perfect condition.

***Turntable
Onkyo CP-1030 F
Some nicks on the front, but otherwise great condition. Fully automatic drive and needle and cartridge seem to be in great condition.

***Equalizer
Audio Control model 520
Very useful and effective EQ. One of the first and still one of the best. Perfect condition.

***Speakers
American Acoustics D5550E
These speakers are in great condition and sound awesome. Ported 4-way design with a 12" woofer. Very powerful but still smooth. One of the grills has some of what looks like cat claw marks, but nothing too bad. Speakers lookk great with grills off. Some of the corners have som slight nicks, you won't see them unless you look for them. There is very little info about these speakers, but were relatively expensive when new. Here is what it says on the cabinet:

Here's the story....

A co-worker was looking for an amp too power his new Polk A9's, here was a Parasound HCA-1206 amp for sale. So a deal was made and it was shipped, this is where the deal went south / sour / bad / foul what ever you call it this has it. We have been PM'n each other for days now, and sad to say I not getting any satisfaction here.

(A side note since my co-worker isn't a member here all communications where between Dylan the seller and myself.)

Got a call earlier from Chris, seen it myself tonight its not pretty. It's not working, and damaged in shipping. It wasn't packed well, and must of shifted in shipping breaking a leg off, bending cabinet, bending handle in back.

Just not sure what to do now, asked for a full refund or what. Sad situation here. :(

Sorry to hear you guys aren't happy. Good news is that I did insure it for $400 with UPS. So thats where you need to go if you want it replaced or whatever. I would say contact UPS, the girl at the UPS store helped me pack it and we both agreed that I couldn't be any better (those were their packing peanuts). So it is insured (I almost skipped it, but for like $8 it turns out it maybe was worth it).
Send me some pics, there were SOME scratches and dents on it, but nothing like what you say.

Honestly this thing couldn't have been packed any worst then it was. I have pictures and tell you the truth it may bring a tear to your eye, to see such a nice piece of equipment to such condition.

To say someone helped pack this from UPS store is pretty nice since they should of had a clue on how to get 70 pound amp across the country. But to be honest I feel its your issue, UPS did there thing getting the box there. The packing should of been better starting with you just IMHO.

Yeah, the CH2 thing is strange. You were right, its sad to see it arrive in that shape. I can tell you that box was BRAND new when I sent it. That was for a computer case I got probably a month ago. Did thje foot break off or did the scew come out? Not sure what to tell you that hasn't been said. I DID want to do this locally, but there were no takers, I guess we both learned.

O the horror! Now I guess I'm kind of glad that I didn't buy it. I feel for you man. UPS must have thrown that box on the ground...hard. That is a pretty solid chassis and that's some pretty major damage. Is it that hard for a person to treat each box as if it was their own?

UPS isn't responsible for a 70 pound amp packed loosely in a box as thin as that. IHMO You're shipping it, it crosses many hands you're not packing it to deliver to your new apartment or home. ;)


There was bubble bags which where damaged deflated by the weight of the amp, along with some pop corn and a piece of form. You can see how tight the packaging was in the first picture or so of the inside of the box.

Was it not even double boxed???? I just shipped a pair of LSi9s in the original box, also got a 28x28x28 double-walled box to double up in. On the bottom of the box it said it can handle up to 75 lbs. Luckily the package was 72 lbs. So my question is.. why would it be shipped in 1 box, furthermore that box is a lot smaller than my 28x28x28 box, thus not even coming close to handling 70+ lbs.

It doesn't matter how you packed the item, the fact is 1 box isn't enough protection and being a small box like that, it can't support a lot of weight. As that first picture indicates.

Just that thin box which was designed for a "Computer Case" which is what 4 pounds and 20 bubble pockets 1/5 box of peanuts. You might as well placed a shipping label to the face and sent it across country, saving the bubble pockets.

Yea, I think it's almost obvious that a computer case box like that is not double-walled most likely and would never be rated to support that much weight. A friend just ordered a Denon AVR-5803 from eBay (about 65 pounds) and it came in a giant Phillips plasma box with the AVR in another box inside of it. You just can't skimp when it comes to heavy packages when it's not in the manufacturer's original box. We should all learn a lesson from this.

I ordered my Parasound amp that weighs almost 20lbs. well i was really impressed with the shippers packaging. It came triple boxed with styrofoam inserts, huge thick bubble wrap, peanuts. A 20lb amp was shipped in its materials at 38 lbs!!! Only costs an extra $5 to ship, but thats just about another form of shipping insurance! For anyone who is has never purchased something online and is reading this thread, make sure you get your item double boxed packed tight with materials! There should be no room what-so-ever for the box on the inside to move around, and inside that box, the item shouldn't move around any as well!

UPS stores do pack like that. Trust me. I will never have a UPS store pack a item for me. All they have is peanuts and bubble wrap. I have told them the need solid Styrofoam to pack heavy items but they don't have any. Do get me wrong. This person needs to refund your money and deal with UPS their self. UPS will check to see if the box is rated for the weight that was in the box. Been their and lost out.

Wow, looks almost as bad as a sub i bought a little while back on ebay. Guy boxed it up ina single box with a foam looking thing not even a 1/4 inch thick on the bottom and that wwas it. That sub was beat to death when it finally got to me.
I got my money back and he is trying to get UPS to cover it....if you ask me it's his fault not UPS as he did a horrid job packing a 50lb sub ina single box with no protection.

IMHO, definitely should be the seller dealing with UPS and getting the refund. It was seller's responsibility to properly pack that beast. Refund the money to the buyer...

Agreed this was a horrible packaging job....peanuts and bubble wrap alone in a single pc case box wouldnt do for a 9 pound preamp, much less a 70 pound amplifier.

Steve knows good packaging....he sent me an Onkyo heavyweight TX-DS898
AV receiver for my dad ...the box looked like it had been dragged BEHIND the UPS truck from Florida to California...upon opening the receiver was just fine.

Basically for something of this nature you need a thick cardboard shell around the item....then a shock absorbing material AROUND that inner shell ( Hopefully a shock absorbing material that doesnt shift....styrafoam...heavy duty air bags...etc )...then a substantial cardboard shell around the shock absorbing material.





Take a good look at the original picture though....that dented corner and wavy rack mount were there BEFORE shipping...and that aint light material....that amp took a hard shock even before it was shipped.

Gotta love those fuzzy pics with equipment on carpet (so you can't detect bending as easy). What a Shister. You've been had. That sucker should have refunded you completely.

Here's exactly what he did:

1. Sold it knowing it was banged up
2. Boxed it crappy, hoping it would get more banged up--or so it would explain why it was banged up
3. Took out insurance knowing all of the above would happen
4. Figured he could leave the dispute on the buyer/UPS to fight out
5. meanwhile he's cashing his check

That's my take.
