psw10 subwoofer opinion....

I was wondering if anyone had opinions on this. I currently have a polk rm20 set hooked up to a sony sa-wm40 sub all sent to onkyo 606. I love the sound since i mainly use it for movies. But was wondering if I should upgrade the sub now. This sub is a little bit older and I have added stuffing to it already to make it sound better. Would the polk sub be better than my current sony one. Or should i stay with the sony for a now and upgrade to an even better one when I can afford it. Who knows when that will be though? Thanks

I would say the psw 10 will suffice but if you can afford it go to something like the psw100 that way you are giving yourself a little headway in the event that you want to upgrade your speakers. I have been running my psw10 now for about a year. Works and sounds great for my bedroom.

I just set up this surround rm20 and I won't be upgrading anytime soon or possibly for at least 5 years or so. I got these so I cound mount them on the wall. 2 small kids running around so everything has to stay off the ground. So should I still buy a better sub than psw10? Is the psw10 comparable to my sony sa-wm40 or is it a significant upgrade worth getting.

It would be worth the upgrade the psw10 will do the job just fine. I was just thinking if you were going to be upgrading but if you are not for 5 years or so i would say go with the 10 it will be an improvement

Hello- also do not count out buying used -- more bang for the buck -- I was just watching a psw505 on e-bay to see what it sold for -- it sold for less than half what it cost new--

I started reading more about the psw505 sub and it sounds pretty awesome. How much better would this be than my sony sa-wm40 sub. I just want opinions if I were able to come up with the money for it....

That would be to much power unless you are going to be running some bigger speakers to go with it. It is a great sub don't get me wrong but for what you will be using it with "the rm20's" it would be overkill *10

hdoggie--- to answer your question , yes there are a ton of better subs than the sony that you are using.But like bigaudio was sayin, get one that fits into your system.

The 505 I posted about was just an example of what can be had going the used rout.psw10's can be had for around $100 or a little more off of flea bay.

No there isn't. It's always good to have headroom. When you're at the limit and push things, that's when things break.

I used to have PSW10 and bookshelf monitor speakers powered by 702 and I personally do not like PSW10. It doesn't have enough bass for me and doesn't have quality bass. It was a big difference with that system when I upgraded the sub to PSW505. I think
PSW303, 404, and 505 series are better choices.

My room is 25foot long 12 foot wide and 14 tall and the sub fills my room. In my opinion the advice on this from me and fossy was good. You don't need something that is going to mute out your mids and highs you want something balanced the psw10 is a great sub guaranteed better than the sony. And here is an idea buy it from crutchfield. If you don't like it within 30 days you can return it with them paying the shipping and get a full refund.

There is no way that PSW10 better than 303, 404, or 505 series subs unless that person does not like deep bass. PSW303, 404, or 505 series are long throw drivers while PSW10 is not, also out put power of PSW10 is less than a half of the out put power of PSW303, 404, or 505 series subs.

Things like rap will hit in my room. Besides he never said that the psw10 was better than the 303 or any of the others you are probably just looking at specs we actually listen to these. AND yes people will choose a smaller sub sometime rather than a bigger one Erick did that research and I agree with it.

Just my personal experience, PSW1000 is much better than PSW505, PSW505 is much much much better than PSW10. Actually, I had PSW10 for free from Fry's when I bought other Polks speakers.

You got it right. PSW10 will hurt your ears because of distortion and higher frequency sound (35 hz or higher). That happened to me that is why I upgraded my PSW10 to PSW505 then PSW1000. You will enjoy more pleasing bass (as low as 20hz) with quality subs which has more power out put so you listen at low volume and less or distortion.

You're better off having a little extra than not enough.

Agree with Face.
Yes, you could always turn it down if it is too much. I suggest that just get one good sub. I ran 4 subs before and had a hard time to have all 4 in-phase. Also when you have many subs produce the low frequency sound, you will tend to listen to the only low frequency sound from your best sub.
