    Default Vintage rig/70's mancave

Finally scored some Pioneer HPM 40's last night (same speaker I had back in 1977) to finish out the vintage/70's rig. They look to be in VERY good condition. Thanks to a last second snipe attempt, they went from $61 to $104 in the last 6 seconds (moron)--but still a heck of a deal. So here is what I have:

    - Pioneer SX-780 receiver
    - Pioneer 8-track player
    - Pioneer HPM 40 speakers

Thanks to George Grand, I've got a nice 8-track coming...TODAY! Next spring I'll start hunting down a Pioneer PL-512 turntable, the tt I had way back when.

8 tracks and reel to reels seem to be coming out of hiding everywhere.
I just saw a CL ad for a RTR with about 70 tapes, including some blanks.
I had an 8 track player in my 66 Plymouth Belvedere. I left my 8 track
collection with my brother when I went overseas. Thats the last time I
    I saw them.

The 8-track player is included for it's nostalgic appeal--I'll play a tape thru once in a while, but my DVDP will be the main source.

Nice speakers and they totally fit. You are going to have one of these in your man cave, right?

For your music, do what I did. When I just want music playing and not wanting to keep changing reels, records, etc....I built an FM transmitter and hooked it up to a DVD player hiding in the closet. This way I can drop in CD, MP3s and such and just let it play while the receiver is tuned into an FM channel. This approach also has the benefit of taking the harshness out of the CDs and giving that vintage FM sound.

I do prefer to listen to LPs and reels, but I don't always like the interruption of changing them while I'm working on something.

Yes I plan on getting my original Pioneer equipment out too when I get done with the remodel

    HPM-100's
Not sure what the model is on the turntable but was bought with receiver and speakers in 1977. I had a cassette player and 8-track too but those are long gone:(

You need some posters, Wacky Packages stickers, drip candles, un-candles and a swag lamp. :) How about some gold vein mirrors with dark natural cork tiles and a fiber optic lamp. :D

Here's my setup to play hours of un-interrupted music with an FM transmitter.

So many cool things can be done it's impossible to do it all unless you're doing an entire house, basement and garage.

Even the woman in the picture thinks it's a bit too much. She looks like she's being forced to smile. :p

When I was a kid, my mom had a friend that had a white painted apartment with a white couch, white chairs, white carpet, white everthing! She then covered the couch in plastic, had plastic runners on the floor going to every room. When we went to visit, we had to take off our shoes and sit on the plastic covered couch and not move so as not to make any squeaking noise!
