how far do you have them from the wall?
open them up, check the connections and stuff, you never know if something may be loose/cracked, etc.
also check if there is a Tweeter store nearby you, I'm sure they have a pair you could hear.

If you're REALLY desparate you could check mine out (Rochester NY) apx 4hrs...
currently have them hooked up to Denon but could swap out to Onk 875 or 705
LR Setup:
Polk RTi10's, RTi6's, CSiA6 (5 ch setup)
Onkyo 705 & Denon 3808ci Receiver, Onk 875
Parasound 2250 Amp
Sony 26" KDL series Bravia LCD
Panny DMR-EH75 Recorder
Panny DVD-F87 (5 disk DVD player)
NAD T585 (DVD/SACD)
Yamaha DVD-C961 (5 disk SACD/DVD)
SciAnt Explorer 8500HD Cable Box
Orig & 5Gen iPods, , Wii
------------
Plans/Fantasies:
• 400 disk player that handles ALL formats, sounds as good as NAD with Panasonic interface & compatability.
You can come to my place. About 70 miles.
I have an 805 and RTi12s, you could listen to the 12s, then if you wanted to we could swap in your 10s
I'm using an amp, the Onkyo is just a pre/pro.
I think it sounds pretty good so far (for being in an acoustically impossible room).
Personally I still think mine are too bright for metal, if that is your concern, but at least you'll be sure the issue is with your speakers rather than your system or listening room.
