Default Did my HK receiver just bite the dust?

When I turn on the Harman Kardon it usually displays some text saying what output it's on and what surround mode is on. Today I turned it to stand by mode, then proceeded to turn on the amp. When I turned the receiver on there is no text display, then after several seconds it turned back to stand by mode. I couldn't get it on from stand by mode! What's happening here?

Whats happening here? Its the second reported HK failure in a week on these boards. Sheesh....

Fortunately if it cant be fixed (more knowledgable folks here than I), HK has a decent customer service department. I know - I've spent a few days shipping my HK.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

No kidding! I noticed there has been a lot of bad rap around here for HK recently as well. I'm wondering how old and which models these were however. It does make me look at HK with a more wary eye than before. I hope mine continues to live on. I love it so much.

Check your speaker cables. I have seen animals chew them into short circuits, wives pull them with vacuum cleaner until they short acrossed the speaker posts, etc. Once the reciever turns with shorted cables, they go into standby as a protect mode.

Posting model numbers usually helps. HK makes tons of receivers. Some of them are known to have failures (specific models).

I own(ed) several HK receivers and amplifiers, and still like HK's sound (although when my Carver TFM-24 will arrive, Citation 24 may go on sale ;)).

I have the AVR 247 that I'm currently using as a pre/pro with the XPA-5. I really only need it until the end of this year until the UMC-1 comes out. I think I should explain from the beginning what happened.

I always turn everything off after I'm done listening. First thing I would turn on is the TV, then source, then the HK, then the amp. This time after turning the receiver to stand by mode I went ahead and turned the amp on. After realizing that I immediately turned the receiver on, and that's when it went to protect mode. It was over at that point.

I called HK cs yesterday and they advised me to unplug everything and just turn on the receiver to see if it works. Same thing. It just kept going into protect mode :( Now I'm gonna have to send it back for repair/replacement
