Default A new life and Blessing

The way of the Universe is just amazing sometimes. As some of you's know our little Keiko passed a couple weeks ago. It's a long story so I'm just going to give the short version here. Janey and I truly believe Keiko's spirit led us to this sickly little puppy. Like her, she's having a rough start into life, being that she's hyperglycemic. We didn't know until later, but this little girl is from the same source and line as Keiko and her mother. What's amazing, at least for us is that we had Keiko cremated and her remains Blessed. The gentleman that performed her Blessing is a very good friend of ours and told us last Wednesday at the service we would be guided to another sick puppy in need of our help. This past Sunday it came to a reality. It's funny, because 2 weeks ago I was saying "No more" after our loss. Now we've been Blessed again with this new life and I really believe some of Keiko's spirit is inside her. I can't explain it, I just accept it for what it is.

It would appear that you and your Janey aren't the only ones who have been blessed.

cute dog, what kind is it? I owned a Shih-Tzu for about 10 years before he passed. Named him Checkers, a tribute to my deceased Grandfather. I would play checkers with him every day when I was growing up.

She's a Pomeranian. We named her Kei`na. Derived from "Keiko" and another little Pom we had that passed about 5 years ago, "Kona".

Edit: I'll post more pics in the weeks to come for those that are interested.

Kei'na translates into: "Twice as spoiled as Keiko".

I'd have to believe that's impossible

Cute dog...my daughter would love a dog like that. She'd probably end up suffocating it with her 'hugs' though.

I'm sorry everyone. I posted too soon on this. Kei`na's blood sugar levels had dropped late last night and she couldn't pull through. She died at around 3AM this morning. :(
Obviously this is salt on an open wound for me. I had high hopes and really believed this was going to be another special one. It just wasn't meant to be.

Sorry for your loss. The little puppy died among people who cared for her and I know her last days on this earth were as comforting as possible. THAT is something.

PS: Don't let this setback stop you from doing it again. You did a GOOD thing and there are lots of little puppies that need a family EXACTLY like yours!

Yup, one of my dogs suffers from: epilepsy , chronic ear and skin infections, hip dyspepsia, and he is pretty much blinded by glaucoma.
that poor thing is allergic to most food products available, and I can only buy his special food directly from the vet.
But never the less, we take good care of him, and he lives a pretty happy life.
during summer time there are many cases of abandonment (cruel as it may sound), so good folks like you are a heaven sent to the way-over-stretched organizations.

My Jack Russell Terrorist was born with her left rear knee cap on the inside of the leg. She's still pretty young(2 1/2), but still has trouble putting any weight on that leg. It's wierd, she can run like the wind, but can't jump at all(in a way a good thing) which is very very un-Jack Russell like(see Eddie from the tv show "Frasier"). The bad thing is as she gets older, the arthritis will get worse and start to limit her mobility. We give her glucosamine(sp?)and chondroitin(sp?) supplements, daily.

Sorry for the loss of the puppy. That ALWAYS SUX!!!

Thanks all. Been trying to find some kind of silver lining with all this. I'm busted up all over again. I get attached real quickly and the wife and I are sensitive to the hard luck cases. This little girl looked so much like Keiko and paralleled her because of her health problems. We had so much hope and really believed we could pull off another small miracle. We got to bring her home yesterday from the hospital and we were so happy to have her. They were using a syringe to feed her at the clinic, but I had got her eating and drinking on her own last night. I was feeding her every 2 hours and after her last, she started whining about an hour afterwards. She was right next to me in her box all afternoon and evening so I could keep a close eye on her. When I picked her up she was as limp as a dish rag. The vet warned us to look out for something like this and if it happened give her honey or karo syrup right away then bring her back to emergency. I did this, but the doc said her sugar levels were just to low and she couldn't maintain them. Probably because of something else internal with the liver she thought. Gave it our best shot, I know, but still...:(

    Mahalo everyone.

The unconditional love between a dog and it's human is what makes that relationship so dear. Unfortunately, it's also what makes it so difficult when you lose one. I still believe we're better off having them in our lives then not, that "whole better to have loved" addage, ya' know.

You and your wife should take solace in the fact that you made Kei`na's last days on earth as comfortable and filled with love as is possible.

    Take care,
    Ben
