My Sony AVR has no preamp outputs and the 2nd room output level is fixed. Until I figure which pre/pro to go with, would there be any problems using a speaker-level to line-level converter such as this:

to drive my LPA-1?

yes i agree with you.....i find this forum really useful for beginners like me....
I'm using windows xp with sp2....1GB RAM.....onboard graphics card.....
after installing Sony AVR(Sony Audio system).... my system is restarting immediately......
i have checked the requirements....my PC is suitable....Please show me some solution.....
