SACD seems to be thriving in many foreign markets, the bean counters at Sony are smiling.

Nice, but let's be honest it needs to be a in general Q public face somewhat anyway. Nothing I see above falls into that category.

I think physical mediums for music, such as SACD, have basically gone the way of the dodo bird. Most people nowadays listen to their music either through their computers or their iPods. We, even those of us who listen to music on CD, are considered dinosaurs. However, I believe there're still enough of us around the world that care enough for the hardware manufacturers to make machines for us to play our music. Given the shift in the marketplace and the "format war" with DVD-A and DualDisc, it's amazing that SACD will be celebrating its 10th anniversary next year. I hope we will see more affordable SACD-capable players in this coming year.

Oh, by the way, here're a couple of pics from a Tokyo music store carrying SACD....I see SACD of the Bryds' "Greatest Hits" (on top of what looks like Boston's debut album) and Mariah Carey's "#1s". Hmmm....those headphones at the listening station looks like Sony MDR-V6s

I am going to be in the market in the next 6 months or so. I have no experience with SACD. Would I be sacrificing redbook in my quest for a player that will do sacd as well?

    Thanks,

SACD will never be dead just like vinyl. It's good to see dedicated SACD players on display. Thanks for the pics Danny.

SACD will be around for a while. It's for the high end crowd, but there are some nice bargin players out there. I don't think that I could afford any of those players at the audio show.:(

Each machine is different so it is subjective. Unless your going high dollar with a machine that has circuitry totally seperate for each format then I would have a machine for sacd and then redbook player designed to only that.

Mike I have a standalone redbook player that I love. I use a Denon 2900 with a Musical Fidelity tube buffer for SACD/DVD-
A and I am very happy with the results. Granted the Denon isn't a kw player but it gets the job done for the money paid for it.
