Default Possibly really stupid bipolar question.

Let me start off by saying I have a Polk RTi/FXi system(RTi10s, CSi5, FXi5s, Hsu Reasearch Sub). I recently had the opportunity to demo a Def Tech system with bipolar fronts & was really impressed with the huge soundstage the BP speakers emitted. Could I buy a pair of RTI6s, wire them in with the RTi10s, place them on top of my RTi10s facing the opposite direction, & get the similair effect the Def Tech BPs put out?

I don't think you'd get the same effect. Why not sell what you have and get the Def Techs?

I demoed a set of Def Techs as a possible replacement for my RT5000 system in my HT. I lived with them for a week and sent them back. I liked the DT "effect" but decided its a gimmick, kind of like the old Bose 901's. It sounds really cool for a while, but isn't really accurate, and got kind of tiring to me. Of course, your ears may disagree.

BTW, I would try the idea with the RTi6's, if you can find a set you can return if you don't like the effect. They are your ears, and if you like it, do it. Some people like red wines, some like whites, some like sweet, some like dry. What matters is what YOU like.

Your dealer should allow you to do an in-home demo of the DT's, or allow you to return the speakers after a few days if you don't like them. No speaker system sounds the same in the demo room as it will in your room. Of course, how it sounds in your room is all that matters. If they won't do that, I'd find another dealer.

In my opinion ALL speakers have some kind of "gimmick" in an effort to seperate themselves from the pack. I guess it all depends what gimmick is acceptable to your ears.
