need help selecting surround speakers

I have RTiA5 fronts, CSia4 center, and a dsw600 sub. I need surrounds...it says that teh RTiA5s are "timbre matched" to all other polk speakers. Obviously, it would be best to use the FXiA4 surrounds but i'm thinking my wife will think they are too big. I will have to use stands for the surrounds so I was thinking the RM8s with the sleek glass bottom stands would look best.

Would they sound good or are FXiA4s much preferred?

I too have have RTi A5s as front, CSi3 as center and PSW110 sub. I am planning to go for 7.1 setups. I am also debating whether to go for RM101 Satellite Speaker or FXi A4 for surround rears and sides. I am more worried about sound quality to match A5s and CSi3. Price difference is huge between these two sets. I can get four RM101s for $225 where as four FXi A4s are costing $800.

Appreciate any input on which ones to pick.

I recently picked up the FXi A4's and have been extremely happy with them. I think they would compliment your existing set-up very well.

I am looking for both surround sides and surround rears. If I take four FXiA4s, are the worth $575 more?

You can get a good deal on some fxi a4 from Polk Direct . This will be a good choice for surrounds and rears. Also RTI A1's will work good as well for less $.

I agree with leroyjr, I picked up my FXi A4's on Polk Direct and they were absolutely mint. After shipping and tax, I paid roughly $270.00 a pair. IMO they were worth every penny.

Picked up FXi A4s from Polk Direct on eBay (refurbished) for $250 including shipping. Hooked them up and they sound great.

Thanks for the advice. I went with the FXiA4s as advised. I have yet to hook them up because I need stands to hold them.

I should have done a bit more research beforehand but I have been researching a bit more since I have received them. Much of the advice on the web indicates that direct surround speakers are much preferred....is this true? Did i make a mistake?

From the way the room is setup i will probably be using the bipole mode. According to advice on the web most movie/music is designed for the direct surround sound speakers.

Any thoughts? If you need any more specifics about my room characteristics please let me know. Thanks.

My advice is to relax...when you are able to get em hooked up I think you will be very happy with them. I don't have any buyers remorse at all, they are excellent surround speakers. Once you get them set-up, you can experiment with di-pole and bi-pole settings until you get something your happy with. In terms of direct surround speakers being "much preferred", that's totally personal, let your ears decide.:D

I Love my FXI3's (surrounds) and for my 7.2 set up is used RTI4's for the rears. I was almost going to get 4 FXI'3 but they guy at polk talked my into RTI4'3 for the rears.

Here are a couple of pics of the room. It is a a great room, kitchen, and dining room open floor plan...very high ceilings in both great room and kitchen. We are in the process of looking for a sectional to surround the fireplace. I plan on putting the surrounds on the wall that separates the kitchen from the great room. Therefore, the front speakers are facing diagonally across the room while the surrounds will be facing straight toward the fireplace. I'm thinking the bipole feature may work out great for those circumstances.
