Because so many of you have been so helpful to me I feel it's time to give back just a little. So, I've just finished reading a very amusing book about vinyl record collecting and enjoyed it so much I think I'll pass it on to someone here in the form of a Karma. The book is Vinyl Junkies (Adventures in Record Collecting) by Brett Milano. All you have to do is say "in" and tell why (or how) you are a vinyl junkie. Winner will be drawn from a hat by my son John from all qualifying entries on Wednesday November 4 2008 at around 6:00 pm pacific time. This is a good read and I'd suggest the winner pass it on to other vinyl junkies on the forum. Happy Halloween!!!

But what makes you (or your brother) a "junkie"? I want to hear the stories or at least a little obsessive compulsiveness.

    In.

My name is Joe and I'm a vinyl junkie. :o

I know this because I have five crates of LPs that have the VTA written on the side one and two of each LP. I also will not play a record without it going through a four step prep/clean process.

    Shall I continue?:p

Count me in for this Karma.

I am (was) a certified vinyl junkie. I hoarded about 700 albums in just over 18 months. I am currently a recovering addict since I have assumed the role of being a responsible father to my 2 children, but I may fall off the wagon at some point in the future ;)

Seriously, I'm sure it would be an amusing read. If I win, I will re-karma the book after reading.

In please. I still have my first LP. I bought a brand new copy of The Beatles "Magical Mystery Tour" soon after it was released in 1967. I've purchased a few more since then. I guess that makes me a vinyl junkie.

    In please.

    I'm a vinyl junkie because:

I built my own shelving units for my albums; it's on wheel so it can follow me around my house.

I've comandeered our steam cleaner to clean my albums.

I bought a new vacuum cleaner so I could take apart our old one so I could use the motor with my record cleaning machine.

I have a record cleaning machine.

I can recite George Grand's address because I've sent so many checks to him to pay for vinyl. (anything new in the works there, buddy??)

I'm accumulating parts so I can build an air bearing tangential Ladegaard style tonearm.

I've got no drywall on a wall in my otherwise finished basement because I want my turtable shelf (which I also built, BTW) to stay bolted directly to the foundation of my house.

The saddest thing, looking back at my list, is that I still can't hold a candle to Joe's vinyl affliction. The fact that that saddens me is also a problem in and of itself....

Count this vinyl enthusiast in! I don’t have some of my first LP’s cause some rat ripped off with half of them when they were in storage at my mother’s house, but I have been on a quest to replace them.

I don't consider myself a junkie, but I do have a steamer, RCM, use a Tergitol mix, built a side by side flipper style LP bin in Oak that sits in the living room next to my gear, have LP’s stacked against the walls in my office, have LP's in transit constantly, can't pass up a garage sale, ask everyone if they have any vinyl for sale, had a dual arm turntable setup, have a universal protractor for setup, an electronic stylus pressure gauge, dry brush before and after each play, dip my stylus in the Onzow after every side, transfer LP's to CD via PC, list my LP's in an Excel speadsheet by artist, replace inner paper sleeves with MOFI rice sleeves, place all my LP jackets in poly sleeves, store my LP's outside the jacket to prevent ring wear, change the bearing oil every six months, but I don’t perform live sacrifices before playing my LP’s like some of my brothers.:D

And last I checked; I still hold a slim lead in the CP Album cover game with shack breathing on my neck. (I have a spreadsheet for that too).

I am an ex vinyl junkie of sorts. I was an avid collector of Orange bowie RCA first editions, Beatles Capitol Rainbow's, Door's Gold Electra first editions, Zappa blue green first edition's, James Brown Blue King Labels, etc...

I also had to have the collectable's. Butcher 1st thru 3rd state, Sgt. Pepper's Mono, Hendrix Mono, Doors Mono, Early dylan with the 360 label, Blue Note Blue and white label, etc...

Am I hitting anything? Am I bringing up flashes of the quest? Are we all strange animals? High Fidelity anyone? Goldmine anyone? Ebay, craigslist, penny saver, every record store in town, till they all shut down. Yard sales, Estate sales, Crates upon crates upon crates....

No, I didn't have a problem. Just a rock solid Vinyl Habit!
