OK so you both have nicer amps than mine :-)

    But ain't those glows pretty?

I hear mariachi static on my radio
and the tubes they glow in the dark
and I'm there with her in Ensenada
and I'm here in Echo Park
    Carmelita, hold me tighter
    I think I'm goin' down
and I'm all strung out on heroin
    on the outskirts of town

(at least that last one is a close-to 70 year Philco 2A3, still happily emitting thermionically in the 21st Century...)

Very nice Mr. Hardy. I need to snap some pics of my Philco stuff from about the same era.

Real newb question, I know, but what is in a tube and why does it glow? Inquiring (dumb) minds want to know. And for that matter, what does a tube do? I mean, is there a component in SS equipment that replaced the tube? I know, pretty basic, but I'm just trying to get my learn on. Thanks.

Tubes is the transistor of yesteryear. They where used before the transistor, the glow is the way they work as they need to heat to release electrons to the plates where the the output is. Tubes are warmer and often used to add warmth to the sound as Trans or sometimes called Sand amps can be cold to the sound.

You know, once you posted that it looked familiar. I apparently saved it back in June and never got around to actually opening it up and reading through it. One of those things taking up space on my hard drive that I'm going to get around to "someday". Thanks for reminding me!:D

Default You cant take it with you so ENJOY IT NOW

My amps are (4) McIntosh mc60's all copper replaced with silver. the best part about tubes is YOU can change the sound by what tubes you use BUT make NO MISTAKE speakers also has a alot to do with things, SEE MY listing on the SYSTEMS SHOWCASE. I have seperate sets of tubes some genelex gold lions, some electroharmonex, some 6550 some kt88 etc etc. On average I use the gold lions. but the amps having been rewired with silver in england then shipped back has made a WORLD of difference. my SYSTEM SHOWCASE explains it all....When all 4 amps are COOKING my wife calls it our second fireplace....Well here is MY listening chair, my FEET and of course COCOA posing for a ring I sold....[ATTACH]Click image for larger version
