    Default Chinese Democracy GNR

I just picked this up on I-Tunes. In all, I have to say I really like some of the songs. Others I can take or leave but there is some good guitar work on it. I guess upwards of 30 guitarists worked on it over time but the main credits are for Buckethead and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal.

In all I recommend it if your not too tight for 10 bucks. I have to admit I picked it up on a flyer assuming I was pissing my ten bucks. Pleasant surprise.

I would pay to never hear it again.

I've listened to the whole CD. I really like the first 6 or so songs but after that... it's kind of bland.

Listening to this cd made me realize that the old GnR will never get back together. Axl's musical direction is like a complete 180 of what Slash and Duff are going for..

Axl is into syths, samples and loops, overdubs, and a more industrial sound.

The old GnR is just classic bluesy based rock n roll (which i greatly prefer)..

This cd isn't bad, but it just shouldnt be called Guns n Roses..

Although Street of Dreams is straight out of Use Your Illusions...which kinda put a smile on my face. I'm guessing this song was written way back then..

    Thumbs down

Chinese Democracy is an over produced mess. This isn't G'nR. It's Axl and a bunch of other guys. The closest thing to G'nR is Velvet Revolver, with or without Scott Weiland.

I've had the "working tapes" for this CD for about 9 months and have heard most of the "polished" official release. I don't really care for either but the almost complete pre-production bootleg version I have is better to me. Still I could take it or leave it. Nothing special IMO.

I read somewhere that this album coast Axl Rose somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 million dollars to produce and release. I loved the old Guns and Roses, but did they make that kind of scatch? He's been out of the loop for so long that he must have squandered a lot of the money he made from back then. And what studio would back this guy after taking over 10 years to release this album? With the state of the recording industry, it seems he is going to take a bath on this no matter how good it is or how many G n R fans will buy it.

All that said, I am getting it.......:)

I think I would rather beat myself with a porcupine in a sack than listen to this album again. I was disappointed to say the least. It's clear that while Rose has a talent for performance, he was not the guiding, creative genius behind Guns and Roses the first time around.

I'm taking the simple road on this. to me, its false advertising. Its not GNR, plain and simple....its Axl Rose. You cant dump a whole band, then have the singer work with a bunch of different guys, and have the same feel as GNR did back in the day. Those the most disapointed expected/would only be happy with a natural evolution of GNR. this album aint it.

and yeah, the album screams overproduced in terms of sound, but when an album is being worked on that long, how else is it going to sound?

you know, a friend of mine brought up a completly valid point. we listened to the album and my position was simple, its not GNR. I acknowleged my strong feelings in this regard probably prevented me from critically listening to it with an open mind.

Now my friend likes the album. He is a big fan of Rock/hard rock. he is one of those guitarists patiently awaiting the return of shred and real hard rock so when a glimmer of hope arives, he likes it.

He said, plain and simple, is there a better example of true hard rock out there that was released recently.........truth be told, I couldnt think of one.
