Simple Bi-amp fro Rti A9s

I have a pair of Rti A9s that I am thinking about Bi-amping. I am currently running them off of a HK 635 @ 75W rms. I also have a CSi A6 center on the HK. I just purchased a HK PA 2000 amp that runs 100W rms x2. From some of the reviews I have read about the PA 2000, It may run closer to 150W rms.

I am trying to decide if I should run the Rti A9 highs off of the receiver and the lows off of the PA 2000 or should I just run the A9s full range from the 2000. Does anyone have any ideas about which would sound better? What about the center channel? Will the receiver's power still give me a good sound stage?

Use the new amp for the woofer and bi-amp using an electronic crossover. I don't know if your receiver will accommodate you for the crossover.

p.s. Can you bi-amp those speakers, or bi-wire only? You need to find a way to bypass the speakers internal crossover to get the advantage of bi-amping.

When I tried it with my RTI A9's I didn't notice any difference bi amping them. I also was giving them 200watts each (Adcom 555II). IMO I wouldn't bi amp off two different sources.

I have decided to just run the PA 2000 on my RtiA9s full range for now. I have been looking into purchasing a separate amp for the theater and taking the PA 2000 out of the picture for now. Does anyone have any experience with Emotiva's MPS-2 or XPA-5 amps? I could use the AVR 635 as a preamp.

I'm using my Onk 805 as a pre and the Emo XPA-5 to drive RTi12's (predecessor to the RTiA9's). I am very happy with the results.

I'm also using a subwoofer with the AVR crossover set to 80Hz. Since the XPA-5 doesn't have to handle anything below 80Hz, it can provide more power/headroom to the speakers above 80Hz.

And yes you can bi-amp or bi-wire them, you only need to remove the jumper between the upper and lower binding posts. No need for an external crossover.

One concern when bi-amping with different model amps is the gain factor. If they are different, when you change the volume on the AVR/Pre, the apparent volume increase may not be the same from each amp, resulting in either the highs or lows increasing in volume faster than the other (if you follow that).

I have decided not to bi-amp my Rti A9s because, from what I have read, you need to disable the internal crossovers and use an external crossover with two amps. I am not willing to dig into these speakers just yet. They sound great on my AVR, but I have the upgrade bug and may buy a XPA-5 in the next few weeks. maybe I can talk my wife into it.

On a side note, does anyone else have the HK 635, and if so, have you ever noticed the center channel fading in and out?

External crossover??? Just remove the jumper plate. In fact, try this: remove the jumper and hook up the amp to the bottom side. Do you hear any sound coming from the tweeter...
