    Default Another must have SACD

I picked up Mozart Chamber Music for Winds and Strings by the Boston Symphony Chamber Players and got around to playing it yesterday.....this is THE SACD to own. If you want to hear what the format is capable of in terms of musicality and resolution, this is the one. I know that this is a dead format and you can't put the SACD layer on your computer but I'd consider it anyway.

This is the disc that acousticsounds keeps pushing, now I know why.

Even if you don't like classical, get this. You will love it.

Bottom line, it's great music, performed and recorded flawlessly. I can't explain it any better than that. You can ascribe all the great audiophile terms....but it's simply the best sounding SACD that I've got.

...and Brother Ted is absolutely correct.

    Hello,
To continue in Troy's theme, I can recommend:
    http://www.audaud.com/article.php?ArticleID=2576
This a very unique recording, the company programmed a Yamaha electronic piano to play Glenn Gould's famous 1955 Bach Goldberg Variations exactly as he would have played it. Then they positioned microphones to make both a multi-channel and two-channel recording as well as a binaural recording. So, you are hearing a live piano playing as if Glenn was playing it.
Excellent sounding, in my humble opinion.

If you like the Sony/Zenph Glenn Gould "Re-performance" SACD, then I think you'd be interested in the upcoming Sony/Zenph "Re-performance" SACD of Art Tatum's "Piano Starts Here". The multi-channel hybrid SACD, which also features a binaural version of the recording, is set for release on June 3, 2008.

This may be a dumb question, but anyone heard if there's any SACD from Bobby Mcfarren?

Thanks for the suggestion Troy. Always looking for good SACD recordings.
In that listing they require a minimum $50 order for me and ship UPS. The shipping would probably be more expensive than the CD's.

    Default Handel, Organ Concertos Op.4

Another excellent classical SACD. Kinda pricey at $21. I'd suggest googling every month for Barnes and Noble or Border's Bookstore coupon. Sometimes you get lucky and find a 30% or 40% off coupon. YMMV finding a copy, especially a SACD version, at the store (but they will order it for you). One of my B&N store has a huge classical section whereas my Border's recently shrunk theirs in half.

Just want to let everyone know that Reference Recordings just released its first SACD....for the Hong Kong/China market. The SACD, "Tutti! - Orchestral Sampler", is made in Japan (by Sony, most likely) and is being distributed by Naxos over there. Given that the SACD is not listed on RR's website, so most likely it will never show up in North America. However, do look for it on ebay. Here's a ebay listing and what it looks like (no affiliation with seller or buyer -- seller is a legitimate B&M music retailer in HK)

Thanks Troy. Just received it this evening and this is a very good CD. I like classical music, but do not consider myself a huge classical fan. This could change things. I thank you, my wife thanks you (she is the big classical fan) and my Esoteric thanks you.

Danny, thanks for the post. The CD version is outstanding quality. This is another "must own" SACD. This is a variety of classical music at it's best. I highly recommend it. Especially if you are not real familiar with classical music. This will give you a good taste.

Ditto-but looking forward to it. I'm new to SACD, and only have a few titles, but don't really know where to start for all that's already published out there. I like classical, but I probably couldn't tell you Bach from Mozart (except for maybe what I learn on Little Einsteins :D. I got my Dark Side of the Moon though :D

I just ordered the "Mozart Chamber Music for Winds and Strings" SACD from elusivedisc.com. I used the Promo code NEWWEB and got free 2-3 day shipping. Seems to be the same base price everywhere ($16.99)

Then of course I just HAD to order the Zenph; Goldberg and Tatum SACDs as well. $27.96 for both with free shipping from Amazon.

Go join yourmusic.com and do a search on album title using "SACD"....$6.99 + tax for SACD is not bad at all.

You may think he's corny, but John Denver is an excellent singer/songwriter, as demonstrated on this SACD. Features Elvis guitarist James Burton. If you're to have one single John Denver recording in your music collection, and you have SACD playback capability, this is that disc....
