I like #2 w/ the computer desk. Just seems like a better utilization of space to me. Why a black curtain though? You can't find any doors that would work there?

Any other way to make the room deeper?

Not really because the furnace is around 14" away from the main beam in the center. I don't want to build the wall right on the furnace. even 14" might be too small of a distance.

Anybody know the building code for the distance from the furnace to a wall?

It varies from area to area, check with your local town.

Depending on the materials used, you can build right up to the boiler if need be (fire-rated materials, etc). Gotta check with your local code guys, though, because that is the kind of stuff that varies greatly.

And, preaching to the choir here, but NEVER piss of a code inspector.

Both layouts look nice, it'll boil down to a matter of personal preference.

Is there a door that goes to the lower stairway or is that open ?

Here's a comparrison with my current room, the white box in the center of the new room shows off the size of the room I am using now.

I gain around a foot in depth and a good 48" on either side of my 1.2TL's.

When this room will be done I will get the true SDA sound that I have been wanting for years.

    Got the Commitment Letter yesterday!!!

It's moving along, should be closing by the 3rd or 4th week on January and I will have the apartment until Feb 28th

    French Drain Question:

Does cutting a french drain hinder the stability of the foundation walls?

Can bugs enter the house through the french drain?

I'd flip the room & put your system on the short wall...

French drain under the slab? Not if it's done at the time you pour it. Bugs can get in ANY passage to a house. Spray often.
